An NIH-supported postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Anatoliy Gashev located in Temple, Texas, USA to study the mechanisms of age-related alterations in lymphatic pumping. The experiments will focus on the evaluations of the age-induced changes in the functional adaptive reserves of lymphatic vessels and molecular mechanisms responsible for such changes. The experimental models for potential improvement of lymphatic contractile function in aged lymphatic vessels will be tested using combined genetic/pharmacological approach. Experimental techniques include functional tests on isolated and pressurized lymphatic microvessels, RT/PCR, Western blots, intravital and fluorescence microscopy, gene transfection, therefore corresponding experience in these methods is desirable. Associate Professor Anatoliy Gashev, M.D., Ph.D., is member of the Lymphatic Division in Cardiovascular Research Institute at Texas A&M Health Science Center, faculty member of Department of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine; his research program will provide opportunity for academic training in one of the leading Institutions in lymphatic research. Excellent research and educational environment, high level of collaboration with other laboratories, and involvement into different pilot projects will create good opportunities for professional development on the way towards independent investigator. Interested candidates are expected to be involved in all stages of research project including presentation of data at meetings, and in journal paper format; good communication skills and ability to work as a team member will be necessary to effectively perform studies in multinational research group.
Salary is in accordance with NIH guidelines and experience; work progress is subject of annual evaluation. Ph.D. or M.D. degree is necessary.
