Position Overview:
This position is part of the development team. The Development Associate, Tokyo is responsible for supporting the local Room to Read chapter, managing local public relations & communications, coordinating administrative tasks and running the local network or Room to Read volunteers. The position will report directly to Manager of Chapters & Volunteers who works out of the global headquarters in San Francisco, CA, USA.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Manage and coordinate all activities of the Tokyo chapter (and other Japanese chapters), while effectively leveraging the chapter network
• Main point of contact for all Japanese language donor communication
• Coordinate & oversee administrative tasks including minor accounting & bookkeeping duties
• Manage volunteer coordination working closely with the Tokyo chapter leaders
• Act as the main liaison between the Global Office and the Tokyo chapter
• Attend various committee meetings of the Tokyo chapter
• Set up and attend meetings with key vendors for effective event strategy and implementation
• Conduct and coordinate all post-event follow-up, including but not limited to auction follow-up, thank you notes, phone calls & meetings
• Provide consistency and oversight of website for a consistent communication strategy
• Manage local PR by coordinating interviews for visiting Room to Read staff and connecting local press interest with chapter members

Required:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and working knowledge of English
• Prior experience working with volunteers
• Bachelors degree
• 2-3 years general work experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization
• Adept at using Excel and Word
• Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
• Ability and desire to travel frequently internationally
• Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
• Proven track record of achieving results
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
• Legally eligible to work in Japan; no sponsorship provided
