Whether the form and level of gender discrimination against women or men in Cameroon falls to be regarded as a major problem by international standards such as that postulated by the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, The Universal Convention on Human Rights, The European Convention on Human Rights or the standards of democracy promoted by the USA or others; is a matter that needs to be identified by you the researcher for analyses and propose action to be followed by relevant stakeholders.
You will work with local experts and local government authorities and crosscheck with other NGOs and International Organizations working on the subject matter in Cameroon and beyond as intern or volunteer.
It is observed that Cameroon has a multitude of religions, over 265 local languages and cultures, 2 official languages of English and French and wide spread pidgin English; a multitude of dressing patens that speak a thousand words about who is putting it on, from where he/she is coming from, his/her economic activity, what he/she eats and what he/she is doing or about to do and what his gender role is in his local community and at the present event!
The current state of the Human Rights (HR) of women and Children is now attracting new investors such as academia, activists, local charities and NGOs, international organizations and the government.
The GEED Foundation is currently identifying wide spread trafficking in women and children, child labor, wide spread child prostitution and child rape, as well as geometric rise in number of street children in local towns and in major cities of Cameroon.
You will visit women groups in indigenous communities that the GEED Foundation is working to build their gender, human rights and livelihood capacity across Cameroon. You will visit local prisons.
You will identify 30 must vulnerable of street children and then process case files for them that you would then be able to launch advocacy campaign to relief their problems both locally and internationally.
You will be able to take original photographs, conduct interviews, collect original data, cross check with that collected by other researchers and then give an expert opinion.
You will create a new website and or upload the relevant research and campaign in to a website all in collaboration with the GEED Foundation and relevant stakeholders.
You will visit refugees and identify new asylum seekers as well as conduct a fact finding mission to the immigration police service, relevant detention centers and the ministry of external relations and or to the ministry of the interior. This will take you across regions and cities by slow land transport some time taking days in dilapidated coaches costing about 30 Euros per ticket.
You will research on the major push factors of refugees and where they come from. Their legal and material needs and current difficulties faced in Cameroon as result of their status.
You will be supervised and given first hand lectures from our senior HR, Asylum and Immigration Experts such as Jude Nforngang who has worked as Asylum and Immigration Team Caseworker in a top class refugee agency in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Jude Nforngang has obtained professional qualifications in Law of Tort and Civil Litigation, Criminal Law and Criminal Litigation, Contract Law, Property Transactions and Conveyancy, Business Formation, and Asylum and Immigration Training all in UK. Our above expert has done client casework for all kinds of asylum seekers and refugees from all refugee producing countries of the world arriving and living in the UK. He has done valuable casework to migrant clients from Eastern European and others such as India, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran , Kosovo, etc and clients seeking permanent stay in the UK and those just arriving and seeking work permits as a result of the recent enlargement of the European Union common travel area.
You will analyze and pin point current global movements of refugees and migrant workers, their social impact and the gains resulting to host countries, and Cameroon such as the emergence of new income money from migrants and its impact on the Cameroon economy as a case study. You may interview local people on this and equally visit emerging financial institutions. You will determine the availability of legal frameworks for refugees and migrant workers in Cameroon by the government, the private sector and equally visit the refugee camps in the East region of Cameroon and you may be able to talk to a resident expert of the UNHCR in Bertoua and or in Yaounde.
You will be punctual, dressed to the code in British style suite and casual where necessary.
You will be ambassador of your institution and of the GEED Foundation and must therefore conduct yourself in professional ethics and in good behavior.
You are diplomatic and identify problems and channel difficulties to your GEED Foundation provided supervisor first and then to your institution in early warning.
You are personally insured against harm to your person, health and property and must report all emergencies to GEED Foundation and your institution immediately.
You will be able to fundraise to cover your cost of feeding and special accommodation, material and transport, visa and travel prior to arrival to Cameroon.
The GEED Foundation may provide basic accommodation only. But note that this is on the bases of as available and may be very poor even below standard to our local staff when we go for field work in remote villages where 90% of our work and clients are based in the North West and East Regions of Cameroon.
It is always exciting! Although difficult, across dangerous terrains; it’s all worth it when you are done.
You will produce and provide a copy of all your rough notes/finding as well as a final published copy.
Please note that the consular services of Cameroon would require that you have return flight tickets and at least one thousand five hundred euro (1500Euro) or $2000 USD in funds ready to be used in Cameroon for your personal care and activities, prior to arrival in Cameroon. It is better to have all cash in euro notes and there is the availability of ATM cash machines only in major cities for visa and master cards for a fee.
You should be able to obtain a 3 months tourist visa from the nearest Cameroon diplomatic services in your country prior to arrival.
