This position reports to:Project Manager
Primary Position Purpose:
The Senior Construction Planning Engineer’s duties for the will be to review the Contractor’s submitted construction programme and plant procurement schedule. They will monitor progress on site to ensure that any necessary action can be taken in time if construction progress falls behind the agreed Project Construction Schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Make sure that the Contractor submits programmes within the timeframe required by the contract;
Control and report any major deviations from this programme to the Project Manager and the Contractor so that appropriate corrective action can be taken to achieve the agreed construction milestones.
Examine submitted programmes as a priority. If the content or scope is inadequate, the Senior Construction Planning Engineer will discuss the issue immediately with the Contractor;
Monitoring of actual construction progress against the Contractor’s approved construction programme;
Use of appropriate software to update construction programmes on a regular basis and produce reports and charts which allow the Project Manager an easy evaluation of construction progress and the main issues which might cause delays or cost overruns;
Develop alternative construction programmes if site conditions or other circumstances require corrective steps to accomplish the final construction completion date;
Ensure that the programme approvals are addressed promptly
Always deal with extension of time claims as a priority
Ensure proper records are set up to evaluate delays and extensions of time.

Preparation of any special reports that may be required by the Client (or Reviewing Consultants) on subjects of particular importance, Review of reports prepared by the Reviewing Consultants and commenting to the Client and Supervision and counter check as necessary laboratory tests to insure compliance with specification.
Responsible for monitoring the observance, by the Contractors, of the specification during the execution of the works, Supervision of tests on site, in borrow areas and in laboratories, maintaining record of visits to site, borrow areas and meetings held; details of equipment standing or lost time; and any other matters affecting the progress or cost of the works.
Project preparation and reporting must be computer generated using MS Office Professional or approved software.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering are essential. Majoring in Construction Planning for large Dam and Hydropower projects is preferred.
A minimum of 25 years total experience is required
An ability to demonstrate experience in relevant aspects of construction methods, equipment, scheduling and cost estimation.
Candidates shall possess strong computer skills, strong writing and communication skills and work well in team environment.
Candidates will have experience in PrimaveraSoftware
Supervisory experience is required.
Candidates with professional registration will be an added advantage.
An exposure to international funded projects will be an preferred
