This position reports to:
Regional Director NSW / ACT
Primary Position Purpose:
The NSW Environment & Sustainability (E&S) team comprises around 25 people involved in two distinct market areas – Land Assessment and Resources Management (LARM) includes contaminated site assessment and remediation, groundwater investigation, environmental monitoring, due diligence and compliance auditing, and waste management. Natural Resources & Planning (NRP) includes Planning and Approvals, EIA, EMS, sustainability, ecology, environmental site management and climate change adaptation. The team works for a range of public and private sector clients and has a strong NSW market presence.
This position is responsible for management and development of the NSW environmental business. This includes all strategic direction to align with the business core strengths and current 2008 – 2011 strategic plan. The position will be responsible for the NSW environmental marketing, profitability, resource management and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Develop business strategies for the NSW E&S section in conjunction NSW business objectives and the overall national and company strategic objectives.
E&S Marketing within NSW as well as focusing on Key clients that have national impact.
Proactive approach in developing work or being aware of what projects are likely to come up from key clients.
Responsible for the commercial overview of E&S projects. This includes the financial management, client liaison and contract administration of the selected projects. Develop and maintain key client relationships.
Submission of EOIs and Proposals and to provide input into large infrastructure projects
Win and deliver NSW based Environmental projects.
Ensuring that Environmental projects are completed on time and on budget.
Ensuring that appropriate technical standards, QA and EMS requirements are maintained on projects to standards.
Monitoring staff utilisation levels and ensuring staff are fully utilised.
Ensuring projects are adequately resourced in terms of numbers and capabilities.
Develop and maintaining internal contacts within the company to source the appropriate skills.
Developing E&S staff. This includes keeping them informed, providing advice on suitable training, suitable opportunities, planning career paths, maintaining professional ethics and professional standards of behaviour.
Ensure documentation, reporting and communication to appropriate quality.
Manage or be part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver project milestones.
Mentor and challenge staff.
Manage E&S NSW panel memberships such as Dept of Housing, etc.
Be part of the national management for major Panels such as Defence Infrastructure.

Development and implementation of E&S strategy for NSW.
Development of Key Client Base.

Control of Environment NSW budget parameters.
Maintaining acceptable levels of cash flow (lock up <90days).
Project profitability.
Implementation of Project management and Company Procedures.
Development and integration of team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Experience and recognition in the industry.
Ability to market and develop relationships.
Implementation of sound principles in project management, risk management and financial management.
Able to coordinate multi disciplinary inputs into Opportunities (EOI, RFTs) and Projects.
Willingness and ability to work with web based financial systems to extract and anaylise group performance.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory planning & environmental requirements.
Key Challenges
Provide a robust strategy for the NSW E&S team.
Develop core relationships within the sector with key clients.
Assist in the shaping of the marketing tools required to penetrate the sector to match the strategy.
Maintaining a consistent and manageable workload within the group.
Meeting budgetary and time constraints of various projects whilst maintaining appropriate technical standards, QA and EMS requirements.
Develop and grow team.
Ensuring all projects are adequately resourced in terms of capabilities and specialists.
Ensure adequate levels of review are taken on projects and within the tendering period to ensure risks are managed and liabilities understood, reduced and accounted.
