| Paititi Peru is a private organization that specializes in local and cultural tourism throughout Peru. Profits from the tourism expeditions are reinvested in the communities of the District of Kcosñipata and Madre de Dios through support (mainly educational) and cultural exchange, including the Paititi Volunteer Project. The Project is locally inspired, funded and organized, and is managed by a small team of Peruvians from the region, who have the respect of the communities and understand their needs. The communities and their teachers have enthusiastically approved the project. Support for the project has also been offered by the International Cooperation sector of the regional government. Our objective is to support the local education system and increase the standard of living in these communities. We are also currently developing partnerships with the local health system and a rural agricultural development NGO in order to expand our support to these areas. Our commitment to the communities is long term, and we estimate that the Project will require a minimum of 7-15 years in order to make real and sustainable change. During 2007 a pilot project was run to determine the potential of the project –it has been deemed successful from both the volunteers and communities perspectives. In 2008 we are also planning to expand our support to 5 communities in the sacred valley. |
