Road Design Engineer
Type of Experience:
1. Essential a. Alignment design experience with a Consulting Engineer in a design office. ie design of road horizontal alignments, vertical profiles and super elevation to AASHTO standards or equivalent. During this time the candidate should have gained experience in roads/highway alignment modelling software MX or Geopak, or experience with equivalent software and the ability to adapt quickly to the above-named software. Experience in Microstation and/or Autocad CAD software is expected.
: A candidate with direct construction experience with a Contractor, or construction supervision experience with a Consultant will not be suitable in this role unless he also has the required years experience in road design as his most recent experience).
2. Preferred a. Experience in the layout/design of at-grade urban junctions (ie signalized/unsignalized junctions/ roundabouts) taking into account traffic flows, turning movements, storage requirements etc, and an ability to liaise with traffic engineers. Experience in junction capacity design and associated engineering software such as roundabout capacity design or signalization design software.
b. Experience in the design of urban/rural freeway/expressways, grade-separated interchanges, exit and entrance ramps, and familiarity with various types of merges/diverges.
c. Experience in urban/rural traffic sign and lane-marking design, including the usage and location of various sign types and sign-plate design. Experience in the specification of road furniture, such as kerbing, barriers and pedestrian fencing etc.
d. Experience in temporary traffic management and road diversions required for construction. Exposure to road safety audits.
e. Experience/qualifications in road pavement thickness design, preferably the AASHTO analysis/design method, for various types of pavement including asphaltic/rigid (concrete)/paving-block type materials. Experience in rigid pavement reinforcement/joint layout design.
f. Experience in terrain modeling and volume calculation from models, especially for road/site formation earthworks and pavement volumes using MX or Geopac, preparation of estimates, and Bill of Quantities preparation for road works.
g. Experience in the preparation of technical specifications for road construction, and conditions of contract.
h. Experience in road drainage and sub-soil drainage design, preferably using integrated road and drainage design software.
i. Exposure to programming software including Primevera, Suretrak or MS Project.
Qualifications:
1. Essential Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
2. Preferred Membership of, or progression towards membership of professional civil engineering organizations with national accreditation (such as Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers based in the UK).
Level of experience: Intermediate (5-10 years) on design work described above. Capable of independent or semi-independent work under supervision of senior road design engineer. Ability to programme own work and coordinate with other designers.
Role: Road design engineer answering to senior road design engineer. Capable of progression to senior road design engineer role or design project manager role.
Language: English (essential) and Arabic (preferred).
