The Stockton-on-Tees based Iron & Steel Division is the worldwide competence centre for Ironmaking within the Siemens organisation.
Role
The Mechanical Engineer executes projects for the Design and Supply of Refractories for Ironmaking, Steelmaking and Continuous Casting Projects
Tasks
• Preparation of basic and/or detail refractory drawings for Process Plant and Equipment.
• Checking of Engineering Drawings produced within the department
• The preparation of Engineering Specifications for the purchase and supply of Refractories.
• Preparation of the Technical portion of purchase orders for the supply of Refractories.
• Technical Monitoring of Procurement contracts for the supply of Refractories
• Provide Technical Supervision during the Site Installation and Commissioning phases of Projects.
• Ensuring that drawings are allocated correct drawing identification numbers and entered in the Central Document Register.
• Electronic filing of drawings in appropriate folders
• To organise the plotting of drawings
• Assist Engineers with the preparation of Specifications, data sheets, MTO’s and other Engineering documetation.
• Generally provide technical advice and guidance to more junior departmental and agency staff.
• Undertake inspection of Refractories at vendor works
• Occasional working in other department (eg plant, mechanical) as design engineer, according to balance of company workload .
Education / Knowledge
Higher National Certificate in a Mechanical Engineering Discipline
Experience
Essential
• Minimum of 2 years experience in an Engineering Operations, Maintenance or Contracting role in the Process or Heavy Engineering Industry.
• Thorough knowledge and experience of preparation of Engineering Drawings to BS8888:2000
• Experience in the production of General Arrangement drawings. and detailed manufacturing drawings for large process vessels and mechanical plant.
• Comprehensive experience in the use of CAE systems for the preparation of Engineering drawings preferably with Autocad 2004.
Desirable
• Experience of Refractories Design
• Experience in development of layouts for large process plant and equipment.
• Experience in the use of a 3D CAE Package, eg. AutoCad Mechanical Desktop or Inventor
• Experience with Excel
