Position - Senior Structural Engineer
Job Description
To provide engineering support with minimal supervision to complete tasks allocated to them on each project. To support the Head of Department in the management of workload and the team. Provide technical expertise to team and clients as required.
Requirements
Technical Competencies
Essential
Honours Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
Chartered Membership of the Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or civil equivalent
Recognised training of software packages i.E. ETABS, ROBOT Millennium, ProKon, Safe, STAAD pro software packages
Familiar with British Codes of Practice, such as BS8110, BS 5950
Familiar with UBC97
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook
Minimum 10 years post graduate project engineering experience including analysis and design, project management and some site supervision
Minimum of 5 years design consultancy experience
Have a strong understanding of building structures, their stability and load transfer systems and be able to analyse them appropriately according to project stage and complexity.
Must be able to independently initiate technically acceptable concept and scheme designs and meet the requirements of other disciplines
Demonstrable ability to work within budget, to control costs and manage change control to ensure that additional work is paid for
Competent in the design of foundation and retaining structures.
Commercially aware and have a flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility accepted
Good business writing skills
Desirable
Engineering design experience on high rise projects
Engineering design experience on projects based in the Middle East

Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Prepare Concept and Scheme designs
Carry out structural design to British Standards, American Standards and UBC 1997, and its latest substitute, and other international standards
Coordinate with architects, building services engineers, and other structural engineers
Coordinate with, instruct and supervise structural engineers and draughtsmen
Carry out arithmetical checks and independent design review of other engineer’s design
Responsible for the accuracy of own work and the work of his/her team
Responsible for ensuring that engineering work is completed within programme
Responsible for the checking of CAD work done under their supervision
Give site backup on technical/design issues, where required
Assist the Head of Department with other delegated duties as and when required
Report to the Head of Department on any changes made during construction
Oversee on a day-to-day basis the coordination of the design of projects for which they have been appointed with other members of the design team
Liaise with local authorities
Build client relationships and help identify business opportunity
