Requirements
Technical Competencies
Essential
Honours Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
Working knowledge of at least one of the following computer design packages - ETABS, ProKon, ROBOT, Strand 7, STAAD pro
Familiar with British Codes of Practice, such as BS8110
Familiar with UBC97
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook
5+ years project engineering experience including analysis and design, project management and some site supervision
Minimum of 2 years design consultancy experience
Have a strong understanding of building structures, their stability and load transfer systems and be able to analyse them appropriately according to project stage and complexity.
Competent in the design of foundation and retaining structures.
Should be able to independently initiate technically acceptable concept and scheme designs meet the requirements of other disciplines
Commercially aware and have a flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility accepted
Good business writing skills
Desirable
Engineering design experience on high rise projects
Engineering design experience on projects based in the Middle East
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Carry out structural design of elements of building structures and light civil structures in reinforced concrete, steel and masonry to British Standards (BS8110,5950,5628, 8007,8004). Be competent in the design of foundation and retaining structures.
Coordinate with architects and building services engineers, and other structural engineers.
Remain informed with issues affecting other related disciplines.
Communicate design issues clearly in English.
Coordinate with, instruct and supervise draughtsmen.
Communicate design requirements and practical construction details clearly in sketch form. Be able to plan and check drawing production.
Understand and implement document control procedures for calculations and drawings.
Carry out design checks on the work of other engineers Report to Senior Structural Engineer or Head of the Department.
Be responsible for the correctness and accuracy of own work.
Responsible for the checking of CAD works done under their supervision.
To report either to the Senior Structural Engineer or Head of the Department on any changes made during construction.
To coordinate on a day-to-day basis the design of projects for which they have been appointed with other members of the design team.
Liaise with local authorities.
Give site backup on technical/design issues where required.
