Description of activities
Project management
Employee has the technical project leadership in the series development phase of multidiscipline project with relation to:
- Design and validation of a turbo charger application within the therefore fixed time;
- Steering and/or coordinating activities of the internal project team members;
- Discussing, planning, coordinating (and partly executing) of the engineering activities during a project between various internal departments, the European customer, suppliers and the head office of our client in Japan;
- Keeping project progress meetings with the project management at the customer;
- At an early stage signalling and preventing possible problems in the project progress;
- Coordinating and defining solutions for (production related) problems and to that possible related alterations to turbochargers that are already in production.
Advice and information
- Advising of customers in cooperation with internal departments regarding possibilities, to be offered concepts and such;
- Following technical developments on the European market and keeping up technical knowledge
- Reports relevant developments and information to management and head office, should these be of importance to the company;
- Informing the project team, management, supplier and customer during project meetings on the status of the engineering activities in the project.
Reporting
- Reports hierarchical to the Manager Engineering;
- Reports periodical to Project Leader, project team and head office on status and continuity of projects;
- Keeps on a regular basis project continuity meetings with the customer, supplier (s) and/or internal departments;
- Reports by meeting minutes, internally and to head office of our client.
Manual skills
- Working with a computer and phone;
- Noise measurement equipment, actuator adjusting equipment and performing measurements on expensive prototype engines (or parts of that);
- Hexagon wrenches, Endoscope, Stethoscope, Seegerringplier.
Complexity/competences
has the technical project management on 2-6 projects (at which a pre-development project as well as the development of a new application is considered being 1 project) at the same time and serves 1-4 customers in one or more countries. Order size belonging to the projects is 5.000 to 500.000 turbochargers per year depending on marketability of the type of car for which the turbocharger is developed for. The development phase varies from 2-4 years after which the production phase takes up 3-6 years. The total gross turnover can increase to about 300 million euro.
Employee is also responsible at decision making what propositions/information/technical solutions are presented to customer, supplier (s) and internal departments.
Employee is responsible for application development of a turbo (specification, design, prototyping and evaluation), that is validated and ready for series production.
To this especially professional knowledge, technical insight and tact is required in order to bring together the technical requirement program of the customer and the internal product specifications.
Responsibility
- Development of the turbo application within a project of specification to validated product;
- To obtain the fixed project objectives regarding development and the timing of it in every project phase;
- Drawing up the technical specification for the required purchase of the prototype as well as the series production parts;
- Technical communication between engineering customer, internal engineering, engineering at head office of our client in Japan and the European suppliers;
- A representative and reliable representation of the organisation;
- To be well informed on the developments within the market.
Communication
- With the project management at the customer, supplier, internal project teams and the head office our client in Japan in relation to all (technical) aspects of a project;
- With the internal department involved in the project regarding engineering matters (sales, production engineering, purchase, quality etc.)
The way in which the employee presents himself, the organisation and the product/services, will contribute in a crucial way to the degree of customer satisfaction and to the chance of acquiring new orders in future. Technical knowledge, tact and a clear communication is required to bring the technical demands of the customer into agreement with those of the company.
Managing
The project engineer has no formal managing tasks. |

Expression skills in foreign languages is required at:
- Consulting with manager and colleagues;
- Reporting periodically;
- Keeping presentations and project continuity meetings at customers, suppliers or internally;
- Introducing the organisation and her products/services to (potential) customers, requesting and giving information, making of agreements and such;
- Keeping profound technical discussions.
