This is a non profitable and non governmental organization, who works to improve unprivileged children’s life in various communitary centers (soup kitchens, playgrounds, hospitals), in Buenos Aires suburbs. It was founded by the actual president of the organization and is run by her and her daughter. The rest of the staff are volunteers, local and from different countries, what gives the organization a very international work atmosphere.
Their mission is to help these kids have a better childhood. That includes everything that a child needs to be safe, healthy and happy: education, play time, toys, food, clothes, respect, love, etc.
The NGO organizes a week schedule so that every volunteer knows which center they are visiting each day. Some centers are mostly dedicated to celebrate birthday parties, others to school support, or different educational and entertaining activities.
For special occasions (Christmas, children’s day) they organize very big parties in a well known park in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and invite thousands of kids with their families to participate in their activities and get presents.
Every activity, project, fundraising, is done at the office, located in downtown Buenos Aires. Volunteers spend half of their time preparing their work material for their activities in the centers (cakes, wrapping presents, repairing toys, planning new activities and games, etc).
One of volunteer’s most common way of fundraising is throwing parties in the city and donating the profit that comes out from it to the NGO’s projects.
Language Requirements: Spanish: Basic - Intermediate
General Requirements: - Have taken BAV´s Spanish course before starting to work
- Be interested in child care and social exclusion problems
Objectives: - - To commit with a project that gives marginal and impoverished children a chance to have a better quality of life.
- - To apply your Spanish knowledge in a work environment
- - To develop advanced Spanish vocabulary related to social work
- - To gain international experience in this field
- - To learn from an inside view about NGOs and child services particularly
- - To learn and advance personally and professionally
Duties / Responsabilities: - Visit the centers with the NGO and participate in each activity that is done there: teach English in a school support class, play with kids in playgrounds, organize a birthday party.
- Prepare food, presents, work material, for each center each day
- Translate articles for web site
- Help the organization in their daily administrative duties
Schedule: Depending on the activities that the volunteers would like to participate. Most visits to centers are in the afternoon, but the office is opened everyday
Start Date: Flexible
Minimum Commitment: 2 weeks
Maximum Duration: Flexible
Note: the responsibilities assigned to volunteers once in Buenos Aires may change from the above description as they will depend upon, among other factors, the volunteer’s Spanish level, time of commitment, previous qualifications, as well as the results of the first interview.
