Area of Social Work: Child Services Development
Host Organization : Playground Ngo (*)
This is a young non profitable and non governmental organization, who works with unprivileged children in two playgrounds in downtown Buenos Aires.
Their mission is to give these kids a possibility of playing with nice, entertaining and educational toys and games, from which they will not only have a moment of joy but also a learning space.
The playgrounds are coordinated by professionals from the NGO and volunteers, who work hard assisting not only the kid´s problems and needs, but sometimes his/her family´s as well.
Most of them come from impoverished families who live in marginal areas of Buenos Aires and suburbs, but work near downtown, so they bring their children to the playground in the mean time.
Volunteers can work in the office helping with logistic design and development of the programs and playing material, making the toys and games the coordinators use in each playground, fundraising, or directly in the playgrounds playing, helping the coordinators or doing his/her own activity (ex: playing and instrument and teaching songs).
Language Requirements: Spanish: Intermediate / English: Native or Advanced
General Requirements: - Have taken BAV´s Spanish course before starting to work
- Be interested in child care and social exclusion problems
Objectives: - - To commit with a project that gives to marginal and impoverished families the possibility of having a place that educates and gives love and emotional support to their children.
- - To apply your Spanish knowledge in a work environment
- - To develop advanced Spanish vocabulary related to social work
- - To gain international experience in this field
- - To learn from an inside view about NGOs and child services particularly
- - To learn and advance personally and professionally
Duties / Responsabilities: - Design and make toys and games
- Translate articles for web site
- Help the organization in their daily administrative duties
- Help in the playgrounds with the children
- Do a personal activity in the playground
- Develop a personal project which the NGO can benefit from
Schedule: Everyday in the afternoon
