Repair Industries Of Michigan, INC., a leading provider of products and services in the automotive material handling industry, is seeking a Purchasing Agent for our Detroit, MI manufacturing operation.
Purchasing Agent
The Purchasing Agent will negotiate and transact with approved suppliers for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services used by Repair Industries of Michigan, Inc. From time to time, the Purchasing Agent will source materials, supplies, equipment, and services and negotiate contracts with suppliers for the same.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Purchase all production materials.
• Maintain inventory for key stock items.
• Purchase most expense materials and services.
• Manage purchase requisition process.
• Perform limited requisition engineering in working with supervisors to determine quantities and types of material required for individual jobs.
• Distribute requests for quotation to approved suppliers, evaluate bids, and award business.
• Follow-up on material shortages and past-due material from purchase orders.
• Ownership of cost, quality, and delivery for all purchased goods & services.
• Administer supplier scorecard program.
• Assist in identifying, evaluating, and developing potential new suppliers.
• Assist/Lead sourcing projects to drive direct material deflation, expense reduction, material & labor productivity, and increased material availability.
• Support commercial functions by providing material cost information.
• Support accounting in resolving accounts payable discrepancies.
• Support receiving process by assisting with material identification, enforcing shipping instructions with suppliers, etc.
• Comply with business policies on supplier relationships.
• Act in compliance with US law, including antitrust law, discriminatory pricing, and environmental & safety regulations.
Essential Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree strongly desired.
Experience / Skill:
• 2+ years experience in manufacturing environment desired
• Familiar with purchasing and materials management practices, procedures, contract issues, and legal compliance.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Comfortable handling multiple priorities.
• Some background in negotiation skills.
• PC proficiency in MS Office
