General Manager (GM)
Reports to (title): Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Division/Dept: General Management

Position Purpose:
This position is the highest-ranking authority accountable for the leadership and results at the individual company or locations assigned. This position will look after the key management functions of human capital, asset utilization and preservation, operational performance, environment, health and safety (EHS) and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The primary purpose of operations is to maximize crude palm oil, kernel and palm kernel oil productivity. Method will utilize a balanced scorecard approach and optimize the capital and operational cost structures.
This position is accountable for corporate requirements at the assigned company or locations concerning legal and ethical behaviours; EHS; CSR and employee well being and satisfaction.

Principle Accountabilities:
Leadership: Guide the organization as the champion of corporate requirements, values and business systems. Establish and maintain a work environment that fosters performance improvement, accomplishment of strategic objectives, innovation, and organizational agility.
This work environment is based on accountability, effective communication, integrity, employee development and passion for results.
Position the organization as a respected and valued part of the communities in which we operate with implementation of strategic community involvement activities.
Strategic Planning and Deployment: Be a primary contributor to the formation of strategic objectives / plans for the assigned company or locations. Ensure that the organizational strategies as defined by the CTP Holdings Board of Directors are in complete alignment with the strategic action plans deployed at the assigned company or locations. Highlight and react to business changes that may alter this alignment.
Customer and Market Focus: Support customer focused strategy and action plans by aligning the operations with these strategies. Be an active participant in identifying customers, customer groups and market segments and actively be involved in determining key customer requirements.
2 Manage and measure the business in a way that leads to customer acquisition, satisfaction, loyalty, retention, and to business expansion and sustainability.
Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management: Utilize key comparative data and information to support operational and strategic decision-making and innovation. Ensure cost effective and efficient measurement, analysis and knowledge systems are in place and available to collect, integrate, track, report and base decisions on for all levels. Review and analyze this information to assess organizational success, competitive performance and progress relative to strategic objectives and action plans. Take action to achieve organizational targets and continuous improvement towards industry leadership in the chosen areas. Collect, protect and capitalize intellectual property.
Human Resources: Define work systems and employee learning and motivation to enable employees to develop and utilize their full potential in alignment with the organization’s overall objectives, strategy, and action plans. Build and maintain a work environment and employee support climate conducive to performance excellence, collaboration and to personal and organizational growth. Utilize performance management systems to provide regular feedback to employees. Recognize, reward and provide incentive for high performance. Build sufficient
human resource capital to contribute to organizational growth at both the location and group level.
Process Management: Maintain focus on the key value creating process in the business. Maintain flexibility to enable and encourage innovation, productivity improvements, quality improvements, and total cost profile reductions. Ensure sufficient resources are available to accomplish this.
Business Results: Key performance measurements of this position are (1) tons of oil per hectare compared to a standard, (2) profit and loss results, (3) return on investment, (4) deployment of strategy, (5) human resource development compared to defined objectives, and (6) EHS and CSR
results compare to defined objectives.

Environment:
The key external factors impacting the achievement of this position are (1) government regulations and enforcement, (2) plasma, KKPA, independent smallholders, (3) communities surrounding the estates operations, (4) land ownership rights, (5) climate, weather.

3Knowledge and Skills Requirement:
•Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in a field requiring analytical thought processes and problem solving.
•Strong business management experience with proven results – minimum of 10 years experience with ever-increasing management responsibility.
•Effectively able to operate in foreign, developing country with a multi-cultural team.
•Functional expertise in palm oil estates and palm oil mill operational practices.
•Detail understanding and application of company values and business systems.
•Self-starter and proactive to enable and sustain results.
•Tenacious to get results while exerting high degree of problem-solving capabilities.
Exerts self as being bold with deliberate statements / actions yet sensitive to the people and cultural elements.


Problem Solving:
Base best practices manuals are available for field activities. Implementing these practices combined with obtaining effective results by using the agronomy management system and activity based management system will require independent thoughts and actions.
Position requires the ability to take/support independent problems solving and action in anticipation and reaction to various features of estates operational issues such as pest and disease outbreaks, flooding, fires, labor, and community unrest.
Company requirements, values and business systems are supported with manuals.
Decision-Making Responsibility:
Direct Authority:
•Location approval of operations budgets, capital spending plans and business plans prior
to submission to COO. Subject to CEO and Board of Directors for final approval.
•Deployment of the budgets, capital spending plans and business plans as approved by the
Board of Directors.
•Establish company policy related to operations under the confines of the values, business
systems and policy as defined by the Board of Directors.
•Procurement of resources necessary to carryout approved plans.
•Recruiting, hiring, development, promotion and termination of assigned company and
locations personnel with the exception of the Senior Estates Manager and Senior Mill
Manager.
•Organizational structure changes.
•Non-executive officers compensation and benefit packages.
Recommendations:
•Recruiting, hiring, development, promotion and termination of Senior Estates Manager
and Senior Mill Manager. The positions are considered as Group resources.
•Strategic capital spending plans including expansion (non-base).
•Acquisitions, divestitures and other such changes.
Referrals:
•Engaging external legal council.

Position Contacts:
Position will have regular contact with the COO, Group Functional Support Management and the
full personnel ranks at the assigned company or locations.
Position will have regular contact with oil palm industry professionals.
Position will have periodic contact with board of directors, CEO, customers, suppliers,
government officials, customers and NGOs as necessary.

Working Challenge:
Person in this position is required to reside at the assigned locations in rural Indonesia or Papua New Guinea (depending on the locations assigned).
