Senior Systems Engineer
Position Summary:
The objective of this position is to maintain BGTM’s internal systems and networks. This important position will make sure the information technology infrastructure is always up and available. The Systems Engineer will need to be able to handle complex technical troubleshooting and work under pressure. The Systems Engineer reports to the Senior VP of Administration.
Essential Functions:
System Administration
1. Maintain operating system versions and updates for desktop and server platform
2. Manage the application of software upgrades, security patches and planned maintenance
3. Monitor anti-virus server software and ensure workstations have the latest protection
4. Manage backup operations and ensure complete data reliability, data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements
5. Administer a Toshiba hybrid IP Phone system and reporting
6. Maintain DHCP, DNS, Domain controllers, email, web, and application servers
7. Respond to helpdesk service requests
8. Create, test and update disaster recovery plans
9. Manage development and production servers to ensure maximum availability
10. Available for emergencies to resolve critical errors and maintain system integrity
11. Blackberry administrator
12. Administer VMWare servers and virtualization configurations
13. Recommend new hardware and software to expand existing systems
14. Provide primary direction in systems architecture, deployment, migration and management pertaining to Windows Servers, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, ISA Servers and Virtualization
15. Provide other technical services as necessary for the successful completion of projects
16. Other duties as assigned
Network Administration
1. Configure firewalls, rules, ports, and filters
2. Update routers with optimal paths and fail over routes
3. Integrate VPN solutions and tunneling
4. Administer domain security policies
5. Perform analysis of network needs and contribute to network architecture design
6. Support T1 line connections and Video Conferencing System
Documentation
1. Maintain detailed documentation of the network systems and procedures
2. Create drawings and diagrams that represent the systems in production
3. Identify and enforce policies that will strengthen security and avoid risk

Education And Experience:
1. 8 or more years with Windows desktops & NT/2000/2003 servers in a production environment
2. BS in Computer Science or related field
3. MCSE 2003 certification required
4. Understanding of routing and network configuration
5. Senior level in-depth experience in the design, administration, monitoring, and support of Microsoft Windows Servers and Infrastructure
6. Experience with Backup Exec, McAfee Total Protection, Exchange Servers 2003/2007, ISA Servers, Outlook Web Access, Outlook Anywhere and POSTINI
7. Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills
8. Firewall configuration and management experience
9. Cisco, and VMWare experience and/or certification considered a plus
10. Ability to simplify and present complex technical information to diverse audiences (management, users, vendors, and technical staff) that easily facilitates rapport and gains understanding
11. Ability to write clear proposals and assist E-Rate funding application
