Job Description: Senior Acoustic Engineer
Reports To: Manager Acoustics - Dubai
Min Requirements: Double Degree or Masters, 5 years building or workplace experience
Function Provide assistance to the state acoustics manager to develop the acoustics team in the Victoria to achieve corporate business objectives.
Responsible for the day to day activities related to assigned projects, delegating projects to graduate staff, including responsibility of training graduate staff in the design, documentation, reporting of projects, assist in the administration and programming of the Dubai office acoustics division.
Responsibilities and Authorities
• Assist in the formulation and implementation of appropriate plans for achieving goals relating to business development, engineering development and graduate staff development.
• Achieve profitability and turnover targets commensurate with the expectation of office standing
• Provide assistance to the manager of the acoustic division: including preparation of fee income and cost budgets, monitoring of project costs, preparation of fee accounts and debtor follow up
• Approve submission bids and acceptance of projects including terms and conditions of contracts
• Assist in the development of the Melbourne Team so that adequate resources, staff and skills, are available and that trained staff are assigned to tasks within their capability
• Delegate responsibilities as appropriate and provide guidance in overseeing, reviewing, programming and evaluating technical issues on projects to graduate staff
• Provide guidance, mentoring and technical support to staff
• Maintain an understanding of and promote all areas in which the group practises
• Initiate and maintain contacts within the building and related industries in order to assist the company in obtaining its work
• Ensure financial management of projects assigned including fee invoicing and debtor control
• Provide high level advice and service for the client and other members of the project team
• Be a part of the focal point of reference for the client and other members of the project team and maintain regular communication
• Plan and programme design development and documentation activities to ensure key dates are achieved
• Represent the company at meetings
• Effectively contribute to overall business development plans and strategies
• Prepare project submissions and tenders as required
Job Specification
• Track record indicating sound financial and resource management and ability to win work
• Experience and demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor graduate staff
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• Provide professional consultancy advice within the areas of noise and vibration as described below
• Some previous building experience would be beneficial
Urban Planning Noise Issues (Environmental Noise)
Provide advice on noise aspects of urban planning. Provide assessment of noise abatement methods necessary to achieve legislated noise criteria. This typically involves meeting with clients, site visits, to obtain background noise data and the noise source data during operation, then determining the required extent of, and type of, machine source modifications and / or enclosures, or building fabric upgrade etc.
Discussions / meetings with government departments and / or client to resolve acoustics issues. Preparation of technical reports on behalf on the client for planning approval, including reduction of noise intrusion or breakout noise to neighbours
Noise Surveys (Occupational and Environmental)
Provide determinations of existing noise levels and assessment with respect to current legislated criteria. Provide recommendations regarding abatement of excessive levels.
Assist clients with workplace safety with the aim of reducing employee noise exposure
Preparation and drafting of Environmental Impact Statements
Industrial Noise and Vibration
• Inspection, measurement and reporting of industrial noise and vibration problems. Examples are;
• Balancing of rotating machinery
• Design of necessary machine vibration isolation
• Control of workshop internal acoustical environments
• Ground vibration measurements of construction equipment impacting upon adjacent building structures
Architectural Acoustics / Building Services
Design of architectural acoustics and building services acoustics in conjunction with architects and other consultants. Type of acoustical works includes;
• Partition, wall, roof – ceiling acoustic design requirements
• Architectural details
• Design of space acoustics (the amount of and placement of sound absorbing material such that space function is complemented by the space acoustics
• Assessment of noise and vibration aspects of building, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services
