Senior Project Manager for Alternative Education
The University Park Campus School Institute, a project of Jobs for the Future, trains school developers and small secondary schools to meet the challenge of college readiness for all students. The Institute’s training programs for school leaders and instructional coaches is based on the leadership and instructional model of the University Park Campus School, one of the few schools in the nation that has closed the achievement gap and graduated all students college-ready, regardless of their incoming skill level.
The Institute’s instructional coaching program trains coaches to lead a school-wide professional development process to help teachers, across content areas, develop a consistent and coherent pedagogical framework. The program focuses on the use of six instructional strategies, proven to help all students engage in challenging material: collaborative group work, writing to learn, literacy groups, classroom talk, scaffolding and questioning. The Institute’s leadership program trains principals to effectively utilize their instructional coaches, to execute concrete strategies that drive instructional change, and to use a coherent instructional program to drive the creation of a college-ready culture.
The Institute is looking for a seasoned teacher and professional developer with experience in alternative education settings to deliver instructional coaching training in a range of alternative high school and GED program settings.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Lead and deliver UPCS Institute Instructional Coaching Program in alternative schools, training instructional coaches to deliver structured workshops, support effective lesson planning and curriculum development, and to work one-on-one with teachers improve their pedagogy and support all students to achieve college readiness.
• Model effective instructional coaching practice including:
o Leading structured professional development workshops for full school faculty.
o Teach demonstration lessons using best-practice instructional strategies.
o Conduct clinical observations focusing on student learning.
• Support and train principals to create structures to support instructional coaching
• Review student achievement data with principals and coaches, and support them to facilitate workshops and coach teachers to use data to inform their daily classroom instruction
• Take a lead role, along with the Program Director for Instructional Coaching in adapting the UCPS Institute training program for alternative school settings.
• Assist in delivery of instructional coaching programs with other Institute clients including developers of early colleges.
• Support the overall development of the UPCS Institute professional development program including instructional coaching, leadership and post-secondary partnership strands.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated record as a school coach or professional developer
• Experience in alternative education settings
• 5 or more years of successful teaching experience
• Demonstrated record of achievement for diverse learners
• Knowledge and experience implementing best practices in instruction
• Experience using assessment tools and analyzing student data
• Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy issues
• Understanding of current issues in school leadership and education policy
• Ability to work well with people – productive and positive interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and with a degree of independence
• Knowledge of effective adult learning practices and experience facilitating for adults
• Masters degree or higher
Salary Range
