Assistant/Associate Professor positions in Vision Research
University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine
The Departments of Basic Medical Science and Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, seek outstanding candidates for two full-time, tenure track, Assistant/Associate Professor positions. Successful candidates will be expected to have an area of research complementary to other investigators in the UMKC Vision Research Center who are developing a comprehensive research program in mechanisms of pathogenesis of eye diseases, and strategies for therapeutic intervention with a strong focus on degenerative diseases affecting the back of the eye and the retina. This expanding program is based on research into retina cell biology, and includes molecular biology, pharmacology, electrophysiology, imaging, and proteomics. While research experience in the Vision and Eye Research field is a plus, qualified candidates from related fields such as neuroscience and pharmacology that consider working in Vision Research are encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities will be limited and startup funds and startup packages are highly competitive.
Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in a relevant academic discipline and, preferably, at least three (3) years of postdoctoral experience in biomedical research, a publication record of original peer-reviewed research, and significant potential to develop an independent, extramurally-funded research program. Research experience in ophthalmology, vision research, cellular or molecular biology or pharmacology is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experienced in competing for peer-reviewed research grants.
Other Contact Information
For consideration, please send curriculum vitae, a summary of research experience, and the names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of three individuals qualified to comment on the candidate’s academic and research skills, independent thinking and interpersonal skills.
Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must include information on their current visa and residency status.
UMKC is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
