25-60 years old

Working25-30 classes per week

Welcome to Tangshan.
Obviously if you are reading this, then you are considering joining us in Tangshan! We have prepared this paper to give you a little information about both Tangshan and the school to help you decide if this is the right choice for you!
The chances are, if you have searched the internet for Tangshan, you are unlikely to have found much useful information – except that is, about the devastating earthquake that struck the city in 1976! And whilst it is true that Tangshan is probably most famous for the earthquake, it also has so much more to be discovered.
After the ’76 earthquake, Tangshan city was completely rebuilt – hence its association with the phoenix rising from the ashes. This means that Tangshan is a well planned, modern city with all the conveniences of a modern metropolis, yet still manages to retain a uniquely Chinese character and outlook which is ideal for the foreign teachers who want to immerse themselves in the Chinese language and culture whilst still keeping some of the home comforts such as the odd fast food binge. Indeed food is one good reason to come to Tangshan, besides the usual fast food and pizza restaurants; it also has a fantastic variety of Chinese delicacies, ranging from Sichuan hotpot to outdoor barbeque which is particularly good in the summer with a cold beer. Tangshan is also well known for its amazing seafood.
Besides food, Tangshan has a number of other worthy attractions: Culturally it is renowned for its delicate porcelain products, it is also the site of the burial tombs of the eastern Qing dynasty and if you want to experience some traditional Chinese pastimes such as Tai Chi or fan dancing, simply stroll through one of Tangshan’s many parks in the mornings and watch or join in! All of this, coupled with Tangshan’s easy access to Beijing and Tianjin make the city quite a desirable location.
As for our school, we are located within the city center of Tangshan, just a 5 minute bus ride from the main shopping district of Tangshan. We have just moved to a new, larger school due to expansion and now have 4/5 foreign teachers as well as a number Chinese teachers and teaching assistants. The mix of western and Chinese staff means help is always available and the smaller size of the school ensures a friendly atmosphere in the work place. We teach both in the Language School, and occasionally in public schools, delivering lessons to a wide variety of class sizes, ages and abilities – so the work never becomes boring!
