Senior Business Development Manager
New Power Networks
Background
CLIENT is one of the largest and most diverse engineering, construction, programme management and services companies in the world. The Government and Infrastructure division of CLIENT has an extensive portfolio of services which includes electricity transmission and renewable energy projects.
Over the last 20 years, CLIENT has extensive experience of National Grid’s and EDF Energy’s cable network reinforcements within London in the design, project management and commissioning of the installation of over 75km of new HV transmission cable circuits. In addition, CLIENT has gained substantial hands on experience by completing the UK’s first offshore wind farm constructed on an EPC basis and by undertaking engineering and project management roles for several offshore developments.
The Position
Following recent legislative developments and expected rapid market growth in the near future, CLIENT are expanding their capacity in the energy sector particularly focussed at Offshore Transmission Operators and New Electricity Transmission Grid. As such, CLIENT wishes to appoint a Senior Business Development Manager for New Power Networks.
Reporting to the Business Development Director, the successful applicant will take responsibility for developing CLIENT’s business in the New Power Networks sector. The primary task will be to build relationships with the company’s clients, gaining an in-depth understanding of their project development needs and positioning CLIENT to match their requirements.
For each specific pursuit, the Business Development Manager will work with a designated Bid Manager and the relevant Project Director to take opportunities from their initial identification through to contract award.
The primary target market will be the UK but, if favourable market conditions develop, this may extend to Western Europe. Although this position is based out of our Head Office in Leatherhead, Surrey, the ability to travel throughout the UK and Europe is essential.
The Candidate
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport quickly then develop long-term relationships with the potential to generate high quality business opportunities.
• A self-starter who is able to work with minimum supervision when interfacing with clients but who is also able to work with a pursuit team to develop complex bids.
• Well-developed commercial acumen enabling the most attractive opportunities to be identified and then shaped by influencing the client’s thinking.
• Broad awareness of the industry with established key contacts among potential clients, partners and suppliers at the senior management or board level.
• A good understanding of typical contract terms and an appreciation of the technical and commercial risk/reward profile associated with at-risk contracting.
• Previous experience in business development with a demonstrable track record of successfully securing profitable contracts, ideally with recent exposure in the offshore wind sector.
• Likely to be working for a consultant or contractor in the power sector but, alternatively, may come from a client or supplier company.
• Able to travel frequently in the UK, and potentially to Western Europe.
• A technical degree or equivalent and a good command of the English language.
