Educational Programs (Preschool through Grade 8)
Preschool Program:
We provide a safe and secure environment in which to introduce each child into a school setting. Our Preschool and Junior Kindergarten programs concentrate on building social, emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual growth of students. Through a combined academic and developmental curriculum, we provide a nurturing environment in which children learn and develop a sense of community and belonging.
Our curriculum is designed to prepare children for St. Mary’s full-day Kindergarten program. As an International Baccalaureate World School, our curriculum is based around the Primary Years Programme of the IB Programme and is presented in an inquiry-based environment. We introduce the children to language, mathematics, and scientific academics at an age-appropriate level.
Elementary School Program:
Elementary grade students learn Christian values through a global perspective incorporating mathematics, social studies, drama, language, music, visual arts, science, and computer technology along with personal, social and physical education.
Through these lessons, student learn problem-solving techniques and are inspired to enjoy literacy, and ultimately, to become independent readers and writers. Achievement and growth are celebrated as students develop academic excellence that prepares them for lives of Learning, Leading, Serving.
Our curriculum is structured around the Primary Years Programmes' (PYP) six transdisciplinary themes. These themes are: Who We Are; Where We Are in Place and Time; How We Express Ourselves; How the World Works; How We Organize Ourselves and Sharing the Planet.
Middle School Program:
The Middle School grades prepare students to meet the demands of the world while living by the guidelines of respect and responsibility.
The Middle School, Grades Six through Eight, pursues a rigorous academic program in a positive, supportive environment. Students are expected to advance intellectually as they acquire skills and knowledge and learn to relate the content of the classroom to the realities of the world. The students assume increased responsibility for their learning and take pride in their accomplishments.
Our middle years Program encourages students of this age group to think critically and independently, to work collaboratively and to take a disciplined approach to studying. Through the International Baccalaureate Organization, we have developed an approach to learning that seeks to teach students how to analyze information, how to develop, organize and present their ideas. These programs are applied to all the major disciplines.
Our diverse curriculum integrates mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra and geometry, science, the humanities, geography, Christian studies, world languages including Spanish and French, physical education, health, the arts, music, technology and information skills, plus a rich variety of exploratory and elective opportunities.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme:
St. Mary’s choice of the International Baccalaureate curriculum is indicative of the high value we place on academic excellence. St. Mary’s is proud to be affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization whose principles are seamlessly woven into our curriculum. The Primary Years Programme (for students three years of age through grade five) and Middle Years Program (for our students in grades six through eight, with coordinating programs available in high school) both emphasize the dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, independent critical thought, and the appreciation for the richness of life through international awareness.
