Curtin Business School - The Centre for Entrepreneurship:
Curtin Business School located in Perth, Western Australia is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in education and research. The Centre for Entrepreneurship was established in 1995 to provide business development programs for owner-managers of small to medium enterprises. It is the only facility of its kind in Australia. All programs are based on sound research and the premise that theory must be applicable in practice! Students study a foundation in business, followed by a series of units that develop skills, knowledge and expertise in developing, managing and growing an entrepreneurial venture. Students have opportunities to interact with entrepreneurs and to obtain real-life practical perspectives and experiences in the exciting world of entrepreneurship. Since 1995 the Unit has trained 4000 owners of businesses. Instruction in the courses is primarily from private sector consultants who run their own organisations, but also Curtin Business School academics.
Entrepreneurship Major (Undergraduate):
This major is targeted at corporate entrepreneurs or those planning to pursue an entrepreneurial career, who wish to develop their business management skills and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Students study a foundation in business, followed by a series of units that develop skills, knowledge and expertise in developing, managing and growing an entrepreneurial venture. Students have opportunities to interact with entrepreneurs and to obtain real-life practical perspectives and experiences in the exciting world of entrepreneurship.
This major is part of the Bachelor of Commerce course. Students can study from a selection of two majors or a single major with elective units. During the first year of the degree, students complete common core business units. These units provide an introduction to the various aspects of business. Students do not need to make a final decision on a major until second semester in their first year.
Where this can take you:
Many entrepreneurship graduates launch their own ventures and run highly successful businesses. A majority of graduates hold senior management positions within family owned businesses or small to medium-sized enterprises.
Professional Recognition:
Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Institute of Management.
Entrance Requirements:
The TER (ATAR) cut-off score for Commerce at Curtin in 2009 was 70, and although there are no prerequisites for the Bachelor of Commerce, a pass in TEE Applicable Mathematics or TEE Discrete Mathematics is desirable.
Entrepreneurship and Marketing Double Major (Undergraduate):
This double major is designed for students interested in the management of small or medium retail, export or sales enterprises. Students study a foundation in business studies, followed by two streams of units which address subjects central to marketing, sales, entrepreneurship and small-to-medium enterprise management. This course has a practical emphasis which focuses on interactivity, student participation and lifelong learning.
This is a double major offered within the Bachelor of Commerce course. In the first year of the course, students complete seven common core units before going on to study a single or double major. The common core units provide an introduction to the various aspects of business. Students do not need to make a final decision on a single or double major until second semester in their first year.
Where this can take you:
Graduates become involved in the ownership and/or operation of small businesses, and may be employed as publications officers, market researchers, advertising professionals, brand managers, direct marketers, electronic marketers and in hospitality and tourism.

Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship (Postgraduate):
In this course you will examine the fundamental principles underpinning management theory and explore associated practices in contemporary organisations. You’ll be introduced to the processes of starting and managing a small firm, considering marketing, operational and financial issues. You’ll also study transnational business trends, strategies and operations, focusing on global business perspectives and practical international business skills.
Professional recognition:
Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates are eligible for membership to the Small Enterprise Association of Australia and New Zealand.
Career opportunities:
Graduates generally find employment focused on entrepreneurial and small business management activities.
Credit for previous study:
Applications for recognition of prior learning (RPL) are assessed on an individual basis.
