International Boarding School in Spain

International Boarding School in Spain Chester College:
Located in Santiago de Compostela in the Province of A Coruña, west Galicia in northwest Spain, Chester College International School is a private coeducational day and boarding school founded in 1985. It is authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as an International American School. Chester College’s courses are covalidated both in Spain and in the United States of America. During the academic year, it offers a full bilingual program, in English and Spanish, for primary, middle, and high school students of any nationality. We are accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).

During the academic year, the College provides an English/Spanish bilingual education to students of any nationality from kindergarten to grade twelve. Each student is given a study program appropriate to his or her needs. Moreover, intensive English or Spanish language courses are available to students who need additional language support. We pride ourselves on our personal attention: all classes are small, with an average pupil/teacher ratio of 10:1. Each summer, in July, Chester College runs month-long Intensive English and Spanish Courses for pupils aged 6 to 18.

Location and Facilities:

Chester College is situated on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Spanish region of Galicia. The College, with its spacious and verdant grounds, stands on a hill overlooking the wide Ulla Valley.

Santiago has been an important pilgrimage destination since the IX Century, when the tomb containing the remains of the Apostle James was discovered nearby. In the XI Century, devotion spread abroad and the Spanish, French, English, German and Scandinavian faithful began to make the long religious journey travelling through France and Spain, along what is now known as the “Camino de Santiago” (“The Way of St. James”). Many people still continue to undergo this journey nowadays.
In Holy Years, when the feast day of St. James (25 July) falls on a Sunday, jubilee indulgences are granted at the Cathedral and thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine. St James is the patron saint of Spain.

Boarding:
The Boarding School accommodates an international group of students whose parents live abroad or a long distance away from the School. Children from ten years upwards are accepted as weekly boarders and, from eleven years, as weekly or full boarders.

The boarding Residences are situated at five minutes’ drive from the school grounds, with separate buildings for boys and girls. Two, three or four students share a bedroom and bathrooms are close. There is a sitting-room with a video, a dining room and a study room in each Residence. All meals take place in the main school building.
The students are accompanied by a teacher or a dorm parent.

A daily session of Sports and Games takes place every afternoon, followed by supervised study in the evening. On certain days, cultural visits, excursions and recreational activities are organized.

Individual students may participate in an additional program of extracurricular activities in the evening, depending on their personal needs.
