International Travel & Tourism

Travel & Tourism Essentials

The student will learn all aspects of:

- Leisure/Vacation & Corporate/Business Travel
- Assessing client needs, and researching the best product within budget
- Recommending, selling and booking the right travel products for the right client including appropriate travel insurance
- Where, When and How to make bookings
- Understanding and explaining industry codes, terms and definitions to clients

Tourism Geography & World Destinations
The student will study:

- Major tourist countries and cities
- Tourist attractions
- Climate and best time of year to travel
- Entry requirements/travel documentation e.g. passports, visas, health
- General security policy and procedures 

Sales Development & Customer Care
The student will learn:

- How to sell and provide excellence in customer care
- Professional telephone skills
- To develop more self-confidence
- Great public speaking techniqiues
- How to manage travelers with special needs
- "Niche" or specialty travel markets e.g. Adventure; cruises; luxury; spas/wellness; weddings & honeymoons; special interest and group travel

Airline Industry, Fares & Ticketing
The student will:

- Understand and apply Domestic & International fares, rules and regulations
- Learn industry codes, terms and terminology
- Be knowledgeable on general security policies and procedures
- GDS (Global Distribution System) also known as CRS (Computer Reservations System):

Currently training is provided on two widely used airline/travel agency reservation systems however as technology is rapidly changing the college reserves the right to make changes as deemed necessary: APOLLO™ /Galileo International Inc. ™; SABRE™ Inc.

International Tourism Management (This program is also ideal for the student interested in working as a Home Based Travel Agent/Professional)
Students cover the courses as listed above for the International Travel & Tourism Diploma program as well as a Business Management Course as follows:

How to Start a Small Business
The student will learn about types of businesses, licensing, registration, bonding and insurance; possible areas of specialty (niche markets e.g. Adventure travel, luxury, cruises, weddings, honeymoons, spas/wellness etc). Writing a Business Plan is a major assignment.

Those considering a career as a Home Based Travel Agent will be particularly interested in learning about the importance of selecting the best company to partner (associate) with.

Financial Matters (Management)
The student will learn about the accounting cycle including the flow of monies, and the importance of budgeting, planning and financial forecasting

Marketing, Advertising & Sales (Plans and Budgets)
The student will learn various ways of promoting products and services and the importance of preparing Plans and Budgets to ensure success

Human Resources Management
The student will learn about employment and labour laws; employer/ee liabilities and rights; employment contracts; how to search, interview and hire the best; and how to determine and write job descriptions

Office Computer Training
Microsoft Office: Word, Power Point, Excel, and Access

Other Diploma Programs
- International Hospitality Management

Students may register for individual courses within each of the above programs when upgrading of skills is required.

Certificate Courses
Short courses are also ideal for International Students with limited time remaining on their visa or Study Permit. Certificates are issued upon completion, and tuition is tax deductible.
