Hampton College is located in Richmond BC which is part of the Metro Vancouver area. We are fully registered by the Government of British Columbia. We offer Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma programs in Business Administration, Hospitality/Hotel Management, ESL and Information Technology. Program Description:

The purpose of this program is to equip students with an understanding of Business Communication within a tourism setting so they can take an active role in the tourism and business industries. The course will begin with writing and reading business English, cross cultural business communication, and presentations. Following the successful completion of these units, students will then learn about reception skills, sales and marketing, problem-solving, and team building. The course will finish with students learning how to construct resumes, apply for employment and complete an interview; all leading to successful employment.

Duration:

The Business English Program is an intensive 6-month program that prepares students for a career in business and more specifically a hospitality entry and supervision level position. The Business English program includes 240 course hours. The program also includes 3 months of co-op work experience.

Learning Outcomes:

• Plan, develop and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
• Plan, develop and conduct business reports that are suitable for a variety of environments.
• Complete various forms of business proposals.
• Complete efficient and appropriate business memos, notes and messages.
• Effectively design a resume for distribution in a specific field.
• Successfully complete interviews.
• Effectively design a cover letter for distribution along with a resume.
• Take proper phone messages from incoming callers.
• Effectively deal with customers in a range of customer service environments.
• Provide suitable and effective sales and marketing language in a variety of settings.
• Conduct effective and efficient listening and verbal skills to a variety of people in various settings.

Course Content:

The course will consist of lectures and reflections, case studies, and situations. The instructor will ask individual students to help introduce topics from the texts. We will also form small groups to analyze specific cases and/or current events. Students will prepare a professional presentation. We will attempt to invite guest lecturers to help introduce course topics whenever desirable and possible. Student involvement in classroom presentations and discussions is welcomed and strongly encouraged.

Theory: 80% of the course will be focused on theory that is based in the classroom
Practice: 20% of the course will incorporate field trips and/or visits to a local CVB or DMO’s


Learning Resources:

Textbook: Excellence in Business Communication 3rd edition, by Thill, J, Bovee, C & Cross, A.

The instructor will conduct lectures using power point presentations, a white board, videos, the Internet, and provide handouts. All of these methods will complement the textbook to improve learning potential and success. AdditiEnglish Language Schools / Classesonally, students will be required to complete class presentations, small projects, and reading assignments to reinforce the course textbook.

Requirement For Graduation:

For a student to qualify for graduation from the Business English Co-op Program must successfully attend all courses outlined in the Hampton College Business English Co-op course outline. Additionally, students must successfully complete all course projects, assignments, and presentations.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of this program students will receive a Diploma in Business English.

Diploma in Adult English

Program DescrEnglish Language Schools / Classesiption:

Adult English Program offers daily classes led by professional English teacher which develop students’ conversation abilities. The focus is on improving students’ speaking, listening, and writing skills through integrated communicative activities, including oral presentations, class discussions, small group discussions, debates, and writing assignments.
Throughout the program students are immersed in an English environment that offers exciting opportunities to apply their classroom knowledge in the real life and to become comfortable English speakers. Additionally, students improve their English fluency for the purpose of improving productivity at the professional and personal level.

Duration:

The Adult English Program is an intensive 3 months program that prepares students to start their careers as confident English speakers.

Hampton College instructors are using textbooks, worksheets, grammar worksheet, vocabulary worksheet, speaking activities, theme or topic worksheets, music and video activities. Additionally, students engage in community fieldtrips.

Marking Scheme:

Attendance 20%, participation 30%, and course assignments 50%.

Requirement For Graduation:

For a student to qualify for graduation from the Adult English Program they must successfully complete the course requirements with a mark of at least 70%.
