Canadian English Program (CEP)
* Designed for life-long English speakers.
* Highly interactive and stimulating.
* Teaches students the characteristics of the language, not just "the rules".
Our Exclusive ESL Curriculum is research based, which means that it takes into account studies made by public and private institutions that demonstrate effective ways to teach and learn English. ECC ESL Canadian College's curriculum is designed to balance studies and enjoyment for the students.
We feel that learning English in an English-speaking country gives students a distinct advantage, and we make every effort of optimizing this dynamic in our curriculum. Students not only learn the rules and vocabulary, they learn the character of this new language and will begin to understand the language as more of a native speaker.
Our ESL Program is delivered in a highly interactive environment. Exercises, activities, and open conversations are all part of the experience that builds the foundation of learning a new language.
ECC offers an ESL curriculum designed to challenge students both inside and outside of the classroom.
In the classroom the students will receive a comprehensive communicative style curriculum with an integrated approach to ESL learning. The morning class blocks are the regular ESL program and will incorporate all of the major ESL skills, including listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. The afternoon block will include classes that offer a more focused approached to the individual skills. i.e. Listening & Speaking.
Outside of the classroom, the students are expected and encouraged to approach language learning through a variety of real life skills and activities. Part of this approach is through a regular course of field trips and class assignments. The other part of this is through a system of learning logs, which require the students to approach every activity during their immersion stay as a language learning opportunity. Students will chronicle their experiences and their development so they have a concrete record of their language development.
Students will be offered a unique evaluation system that not only involves teacher feedback and response but also a system of self evaluation and self set goals that will allow the student to set, meet, and exceed realistic language learning goals.
Afternoon Classes:
Students will have the opportunity to gain further experience and practice English through our afternoon courses. The emphasis is on using the day-to-day English expressions, and with the guidance of our teachers, coming to a deeper understanding of how local speakers use English. These classes complement your regular course load and we offer a wide variety of classes such as grammar, reading and writing (all with an added element of speaking).

TOEIC Intensive Power Program (TIP):
ECC recognizes the need for a new and fresh way of preparing for the TOEIC examination. Therefore, ECC has developed a program that offers students a dynamic and participative fashion of learning how to excel at the test.
The program offers weekly modules focusing on different strategies and parts of the test so students gain a deeper understanding of the language and the format of the test. We use a variety of material sources, such as excerpts from the Cambridge TOEIC workbook, to enrich and broaden the scope of the program.
Our TIP teacher is an experienced instructor and has ample experience teaching students to present examinations such as the TOEIC, TOEFL and Cambridge. Our teacher has experience teaching in Canada and abroad, in countries such as Japan. Like all other teachers at ECC, our TIP professor is a native English Speaker, very energetic and motivated to do his/her work at its best.
TIP runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (14 hrs/week) and it is a 3-month program. Students will earn a certificate when they have successfully completed the program.
Evening Communication Class (ECC):
The program is designed to assist students in improving their English skills so that they can perform better when volunteering, working in Canada or in daily situations. Following an entry exam, students are placed in a class according to their level. Three main levels are offered: beginner, intermediate, and advance. The maximum number of students in a class is ten. Students are allowed to join a class within the first two weeks of the two-month-session or as soon as a new group opens.
Each week, students will face many communicative activities. The focus in the class is on pronunciation, speaking, and listening. These activities allow the students to personalize what they have learned in order to talk to others with ease. Students are encouraged to keep a journal of words or situations that they are unsure of and bring it to class for discussion. In order to learn the formal rules of a language, students need to practice their new skills. Using English outside of the classroom is very important so the students do not lose the skills that they have learnt in class.
ECC's evening program provides an abundance of both controlled and communicative exercises so that students can bridge the gap between knowing grammatical structures and using them.
