Arabic Language Courses in Alexandria, Egypt

Qortoba Institute for Arabic Studies (QIAS):
QIAS has been established with the aim of teaching classical Arabic (Fus'ha) to students world-wide. Through both our on-site and distance learning programs, we are able to accomodate students globally, with a focus on teaching students from non-Arabic speaking countries. The QIAS method is to teach classical Arabic by solely utilizing the Arabic language in the classroom. We have found this to be the best technique for gaining a complete understanding of words and phrases, as well as developing our students' conversational and written skills.

Imaam Muhammad ibn Saud University Program:The Imaam Muhammad ibn Saud University Program utilizes Islamic texts as its core material. A student who chooses this program benefits from the correlation between new Arabic vocabulary/grammar and Islamic themes and terminology. This integrated system of learning Arabic via Islam is ideal for Muslim students seeking an Islam-based Arabic curriculum as well as non-Muslims who wish to learn about Islam.

Al-Kitaab Al-Asaasee Program (12 levels):The Kitaab Al-Asaasee Program utilizes short, fictional stories based upon routine life situations (i.e. traveling, dining out, visiting the doctor, etc.) to familiarize students with Arabic phrases and grammatical structures that are commonly used in day-to-day living. This program is ideal for students who wish to focus on the usage of Arabic in conversational and interpersonal settings due to the textual focus on worldly affairs.

Tajweed and Tahfeeth Al-Qur'an Program:The Tajweed and Tahfeethul-Qur'an Program teaches the rules of reciting and memorizing the Qur'an.

Colloquial Arabic Program*:The Colloquial Arabic Program focuses on speaking the local Egyptian dialect. This Egyptian dialect is one of the most commonly spoken dialects in the Arabic-speaking world.

*The Colloquial Arabic Program is currently only available through private classes.

Seasonal Programs (Winter-Spring-Summer-Autumn):Qortoba Institute for Arabic Studies (QIAS) invites all those interested in studying the Arabic language to spend the winter at QIAS in the warmth of Alexandria. The details of our intensive program are as follows:

-The fee for this program is 300 Euro, which includes:

-Airport transport service from Alexandria or Cairo airport to Alexandria

-Arabic (fus'ha) classes for 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week (including books)

-Half-an-hour of Tajweed per day for those who desire it

- Accommodation on the seaside in a single room

-1 day trip to tourist sites in Cairo with the possibility of an arranged trip to Sinai.

Note: Similar intensive courses are offered in the Spring and Autumn, with an extended program in the Summer.

The maximum number of students per class is 8, although the average number is usually much less than this (3-4). We will run every level for each session even if only one student registers in a particular level.

In addition:

1. An extra week could be included in this program for an additional fee of $100.

2. For families housing will be provided within a short distance from the institute at an extra cost of 65 Euro.

3. If 4 people register for this program at the same time, it could be established any time during the year.

4. This course may be taken without accommodation for 235 Euro.

5. Emerge your children within a nearby day-care program (not run by QIAS) while you study.

Please Note: Qortoba Institute for Arabic Studies (QIAS) will not provide any airplane tickets to or from Egypt. Also, all entrance fees to tourist sites in Cairo or in Alexandria must be paid by each individual person. QIAS is not responsible for providing food during the duration of stay.

Online Program:If you are busy or are unable to travel abroad, QIAS now offers online classes for only 4 Euro per hour.

Try one hour for free before you pay.

Classes are offered via MSN Messenger or Skype. Students have to register for at least 30 hours of class time. Female students are taught by a female teacher. Students are given a placement test to assess their proficiency level prior to the start of class. Time of class is negotiable according to teacher and student schedule. Students are initially taught from Qortoba's self-designed, online curriculum, but have the option to switch to the Kitaab Al-Asaasee or Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saud curricula (Note: The Imaam Muhammad ibn Saud curriculum is not available until Level 4). Students can either download books or request QIAS to ship them.

Online classes are also available for those students who would like to resume classes from their home countries after having studied on-site at QIAS in Egypt.
