Miami Jewelry School in Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County, FL (south-west of Downtown Miami), is an established, vocational trade school licensed by the Florida Department of Education since 1987. We specialize in career training jewelry certificate and diploma programs. For over 22 years, we have trained students of all ages to become jewelers. We proudly see many of our students continuing on and establishing themselves and being part of this wonderful profession. There are many schools available for teaching you the basics of jewelry making, and they’ll do a credible job. However, in jewelry making, learning the basics is only one aspect. It’s the skill, expertise and proficiency of the instructor that makes a crucial difference.

Career Training Jewelry Certificate & Diploma Programs:
* Jewelry Diploma Programs:
Diploma Programs are developed for students that want to be future jewelers. These offer a very high level of competency with practical and written tests. A diploma is awarded upon completion. Our diploma programs are designed to teach students how to design and create jewelry using basic fabrication skills and techniques. Students will work with precious metals and take projects from concept to completion. By completing a series of projects, students progressively develop the necessary skills of the trade like filing, drilling, sawing, soldering, carving, forming, general and specific torch techniques, fabrication and all types of setting techniques.
Live demonstrations and one-on-one teaching are main characteristics of the program. Students train at their own workbenches, each equipped with a torch, flexible shaft, and soldering station. This program helps the student achieve the basic skills and confidence needed while performing common manufacturing, repair, casting and stone setting techniques.
- Jewelry Technician Diploma Program:
Perfect for beginners or those who want to refresh their jewelry making skills. In this course, students are taught the technical skills necessary to design, manufacture, repair, remodel and maintain jewelry. Students will work with the materials, metals, machinery, tools and chemicals commonly used in the jewelry industry. Students will learn how to examine jewelry’s major features and how they combine to give jewelry its unique value. This program is intended for anyone desiring employment in the jewelry industry or become self employed.

- Approximate time and clock hours to be spent: 144 hours or approximately 8 weeks of uninterrupted training. metals, machinery, tools and chemicals commonly used.
- Wax Carving and Casting Diploma Program:
Jewelry fabrication with the help of waxes. Students will learn the manufacturing of jewelry gaining a range of new skills such as carving waxes and mold making. Learn wax mold injection techniques including spruing, treeing and investing. Students are taught to cast using the centrifugal casting method using different precious metals. You will be able to inspect and identify imperfections in your models and learn how to correct the problems.
Course pre-requisite(s):
- You must have at least 6 months of fabrication experience
- You must have successfully taken the Jewelry Technician course.
Note:
- All tools, metals, casting grains, waxes, investment, equipment, and student handbooks are included.
- Approximate time and clock hours to be spent: 36 hours or approximately 2 weeks of uninterrupted training.
- Stone Setting Diploma Program:
Students will learn through both one-on-one instruction and hands-on practice, how to set stones in different types of settings. You will get real world experience by practicing a variety of setting techniques including, prong, flush, channel, and bead among others. Students learn to recognize and evaluate quality craftsmanship and identify and set all mounting styles.
Course pre-requisite(s):
- You must have at least 6 months of fabrication experience
- You must have successfully taken the Jewelry Technician course.
Note:
- All tools, metals, stones, material, investment, equipment, and student handbooks are included.
- Approximate time and clock hours to be spent: 70 hours or 4 weeks of uninterrupted training.
* Jewelry Certificate Programs:
These are meant strictly for personal and enjoyment purposes. The student will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the course.
- Pearl and Bead Stringing Certificate Course:
This is a short course intended to teach students basic stringing techniques. Students will string various beads, including pearls and seme-precious gemstones using silk, nylon cords and wire. All beads and cords are included with tuition.
Approximate time and clock hours to be spent: 12 hours.
- Basic Diamond Certificate Course:
The students are taught how the clarity grading system works, how a diamonds color as well as different variables affect sales. Students will also understand the differences in diamond values and shifting supply patterns, and how these factors affect diamond prices and availability. Please note this is not a diamond grading course.
Approximate time and clock hours to be spent: 6 hours.

Enrollment:
MJS offers open enrollment year round. Once you have met with the Admissions Director and filled out your application form, you are free to chose your start date.
Attendance Requirements:
A minimum of 3 hours per day and minimum of 3 days a week are mandatory. No exceptions. Students are welcomed to come every day if their schedule allows them to. No more than 6 hours a day are permitted.
