Mas Saurine offers short-term creative holidays / summer vacation programs and workshops in painting, Mediterranean cooking, digital photography & writing in the French Pyrenees in the Pyrenees-Orientales Region of southern France, close to the northern Spanish border and the Mediterranean Sea. We are situated only 30 minutes from Perpignan, near the villages of Joch and Vinca and within easy reach of Prades and Ille-sur-Tet. Perpignan is located approximately 157 km north of Barcelona in Spain.

Painting Workshops:
Painting weeks with Carolynn Hinde-Smith, our in-house artist / tutor working in pastel, acrylic, water colour, oils and mixed media. These painting workshops cater for all mediums and abilities. Spend a week in the countryside capturing the stunning mountain ranges and picturesque villages, old abbeys and churches. Carolynn will be on hand to help you every step of the way.

Mediterranean Cookery Courses:
Mediterranean cookery courses with our Chef extraordinaire Julia Garrick who has Cookery Diplomas in both England and France. She is great fun and an excellent tutor. She will demonstrate a full range of cooking techniques and help you to acquire a whole new level of cooking expertise and understanding of flavours. You end the week with lots of new skills and a folder with all the recipes that you have learned.
Creative Writing Courses:
Located in the foothills of the stunning Pyrenees, Mas Saurine offers a tranquil setting and a creative atmosphere that is ideal for developing your literary ideas. Mornings are spent writing in small supportive groups where writers are encouraged to develop a variety of diverse skills. In the afternoons there are 1-1 tutorials with Leigh Russell, offering the benefit of a successful author’s individual attention and guidance.
These courses are suitable for all writers, regardless of experience. Leigh is experienced in running courses for successfully published authors together with those new to writing on her UK workshops. Attendees benefit from the stimulating mix of skills and knowledge. The main focus of the week will be on writing fiction, but no previous experience is required. All that is necessary is a passion for writing. Leigh’s debut thriller sold out in six weeks, less than two years after she began writing, and she is keen to help other writers achieve success with their own work.
Included in the course are delicious home cooked meals and wonderful local wines. If that’s not enough, there are excursions to local villages to help stimulate the creative juices or just to have some downtime to think and reflect in the stunning scenery that surrounds Mas Saurine.
Writers’ partners are welcome to stay at beautiful Mas Saurine for the week of the course and enjoy the idyllic setting, wonderful food and wine, and take advantage of the local trips and excursions which can include a day trip to Barcelona. This Creative Writing week is expected to sell out quickly - Leigh’s last UK workshop was oversubscribed three times over in one day – so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
Digital Photography Courses:
We offer a digital photography course with Barry Devereux. Barry has been a professional industrial photographer for fifty years, and it has taken him to 82 countries and his work has been widely published. Barry can guide you on the composition of pictures and use of your digital camera. He will show you how to take amazing photos time after time.
