Basic German I, II and III
These courses cover essential and basic German: grammar, vocabulary, spoken and written German. We will talk about life in Germany, its economy, its political and cultural affairs. You will learn to express your ideas in writing and cope with everyday life speaking German. At the end of the course you should be able to converse freely in German, even about complex issues.
In excursions designed to establish close rapport between the student and the country’s history and culture, you will get to know more of Dortmund and its surroundings.
At PDL you don’t simply learn excellent standard German, called Hochdeutsch, but also colloquial speech enabling you to communicate with friends and other students during your leisure time. The somewhat formalized textbook German is complemented by films and audiotapes covering the vocab and lingo of young Germans.
Additionally, we offer both intra and extramural soccer so you can stay in shape and link up with former students to find out more about life in Germany.
Intermediate I (Mittelstufe 1)
The texts are becoming more demanding: You will learn to follow complex audiotexts and give presentations. Selected current topics picked from the media will be analyzed and discussed. You will be writing more texts of your own and continue to practice known grammatical structures designed to enhance your dominance of them.
Intermediate German also features visits to museums, modern industrial plants or university campuses. On top of that, we usually tend to organize informal get-togethers like our famed PDL sommerfest.
Naturally, we are disposed to assist you in preparing your entrance into the university system. Whatever problems you may encounter – visa-related, registration or other – we’ll find a solution.
Advanced Intermediate (M1A)
(Bridging Course Following Intermediate I)
The Bridging Course covers the proficiency level in between Intermediate I and the DSH Course. Experience shows that most students require this additional course in order to pass the DSH exam. The course focuses on the systematic expansion of the student’s vocabulary, demanding audiotexts, and text composition. Towards the end of the course, a number of DSH test exams are given to keep the student focused on his goal. However, there will also be room for discussion and excursions.
By passing a number of specific tests, you can obtain a direct qualification for the next DSH Course in this Bridging Course. The DSH Course registration is in turn accepted as sufficient legitimate reason for visa extensions.
DSH-Course
The last step towards enrolling in a German university: You will learn to understand scholarly texts and participate in academic conversations. Main focus: Perfect exam preparation, whether the DSH or Test-DaF exam. We’ll make you pass!
Special service: We conduct numerous original DSH exams as tests, so you can keep a constant eye on your progress and language proficiency.
Over the past decades, our DSH Courses have been successful in attaining a fabulous reputation way beyond Dortmund and the Ruhr area.
