Online Graphic Design Degree Course:
Leads to a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design from the University of Hertfordshire

In keeping with conventional graphic design courses in the UK, you will become familiar with traditional graphic design and illustration media as well as the latest digital technology. With three start dates per year (February, June and October), you can apply at any time. Level 4 (Year 1 of Degree) Certificate of Higher Education:
During this year, you will develop fundamental techniques and skills used in Graphic Communication. You will be introduced to a wide range of materials and media, working with modern digital technology, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as with traditional media. You will complete projects such as the designing of a poster promoting an International Graphic Arts Fair, book covers for a major publisher, and the cover of a magazine.
You will begin to explore ways of responding to issues in visual communication. These include problem solving, creative thinking, ideas generation and the presentation of visual solutions to clients.
Level 5 (Year 2 of Degree) Diploma in Higher Education:
During this year, you will work specifically in either Graphic Design or Illustration. There is a greater emphasis on working at a professional level, enabling you to develop skills and knowledge towards working independently as a professional designer. You will not only work to industry relevant briefs but also gain experience in developing and negotiating your own brief. The briefs at this level are designed to introduce you to working to strict deadlines and within the constraints imposed by clients when working in the industry.
Level 6 (Year 3 of Degree) Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (BA Hons):
During this year, the emphasis is on building a portfolio of work in preparation for entering the design profession. You will be offered the opportunity to enter national design competitions and to work to a series of briefs that may closely mimic those found in industry. You will also be able to negotiate personal projects in order to develop your personal creativity. You will also acquire the self-promotional and marketing skills necessary to establish work experience, contacts, and employment within the industry.
Certification: Completion of Level 1 leads to the award of the Certificate of Higher Education (Cert. HE) and completion of Level 2 leads to the award of the Diploma of Higher Education (Dip. HE). Completion of Level 6 leads to Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) degree.
