Image of Hospitality Management School in South AfricaStenden South Africa uses a unique teaching technique known as Problem Based Learning (PBL). PBL involves a blend of lectures and self study, where students are tasked with solving a carefully chosen real life industry-related problem. Individually researched solutions are presented to the group under the guidance of a lecturer. Groups are small, usually 15 students, allowing a more personal learning experience. As a teaching and learning strategy, PBL helps develop critical thinking and creative skills, improves problem-solving skills, increases motivation and helps students transfer knowledge gained to new situations.
