As well as choosing subjects, it is very important to consider the level of education you wish to achieve and the necessary entrance requirements for post-secondary programmes before finalising your learning plan. Those aiming for Bachelor or Diploma qualifications must check the approved subject list

* EnglisBoarding Schools / IB Collegesh is compulsory to Year 11. Level 2 Literacy is required for entrance to university
* Science and Mathematics are compulsory to Year 11. Fourteen credits at Level 1 Mathematics are required for entrance to university

National Certificate of Educational Achievement: NCEA:
Students choose from a range of NCEA courses covering practical and academic skills. Students’ work is assessed against standards which describe what a student can do. NCEA courses are made up of various standards:

Achievement Standards:
In a full Achievement Standards course most of the standards will be assessed by external exams and the more practical or performance aspects will be assessed internally. Students can gain Achieved, Merit or Excellence grades in these standards.

Unit Standards:
Unit Standard courses are fully internally assessed. A student who achieves these standards will receive credits towards their NCEA. Students can only gain an Achieved grade. Unit standard courses are not recommended for students intending to attend University.

Mixed:
Some courses are a mixture of Achievement Standards and Unit Standards.

Gaining A Level 1 Certificate:

This qualifi cation is normally gained in year 11. Each standard has a credit value. As a student gains the standard (with an Achieved, Merit or Excellence) the credits are added together. Students who achieve a total of 80 credits will gain a Level 1 certifi cate; BUT 8 of these credits must be for English and 8 for MathematiBoarding Schools / IB Collegescs.

Year 12 And 13 Qualifications:

Level 2 NCEA is normally gained in year 12 and Level 3 in year 13. Gaining a Level 2 or Level 3 NCEA qualifi cation is similar to Level 1.
Students must gain 80 credits to gain a Level 2 Certifi cate. 60 credits from Level 2 and 20 credits may be carried through from Level 1.

Similarly students must gain 80 credits to gain a Level 3 Certifi cate: 60 from Level 3 and 20 are carried through from Level 2.

Students will be able to gain NCEA certifi cates with Merit or Excellence. Students will also be able to gain Merit or Excellence in a particular subject.

The Arts:
We love the Performing Arts! Dance, Drama and Music are an integral part of any culture and society. They are a practical and theoretical way of teaching and learning that challenge and engage students imaginations, thoughts and feelings. The Performing Arts explore, celebrate and affirm ourselves, our community and our environment.

Boarding Schools / IB CollegesSports:
A strong sporting programme promotes individual drive and school spirit. We encourage participation and excellence by supporting a wide variety of codes. The Sportsworks complex including the "one of a kind" climbing wall, is the hub of the College's commitment to keeping our students and the community at large active and healthy.
