Primary Years Programme
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a world-renowned curricular framework designed to encourage students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. The PYP targets learners in grades K to 5, giving them a global perspective and aims to create a relevant, engaging, challenging, and significant educational environment for all children.
Working with the belief that each child is a competent learner - The Early Years Programme (Pre-primary-age group 3-5 years) at Oberoi International School blends everyday curricular routines with authentic experiences to create a culture of learning and respect.
The learning spaces created for the future leaders allow them to experiment and experience their own learning in very safe environment.
The individual differences are celebrated and focus is on finding out “how you are smart”, rather than ‘how smart you are’, keeping with the good practices of Multiple intelligences. Children in their early years experience many languages of learning. As we at Oberoi International School certainly believe - 'If pupils don’t learn the way we teach… perhaps we should teach the way they learn’- Eppig, 1981.
The interdisciplinary learning experiences involve the learning processes, skill and ‘ways of knowing’ that are unique to different disciplines, yet blending into one comprehensive body of knowledge.
The Primary Programme (age group 6-11 years) o
f PYP at Oberoi International School echoes the similar vision. Aligning with the IB philosophy, the primary curriculum is focused on teaching the ‘heart and the mind’. Its all about respecting individual competencies, working on one's set of skills, conceptual understanding and using it to connect with the world at large. To start locally and reach globally.
The goals of the PYP are no different from the goals of our school’s mission statement. As we aim to "educate curious, enthusiastic and principled leaders" so too does the mission of the IBO. We want our students to graduate knowing how to be a citizen in today's world. The framework is based on an understanding of how children learn and how the brain works. It allows for flexibility in our choice of content as we work to achieve our school’s standards and it connects our school to a wider school and community network. Exposure is also given to showcase understanding and be open for public scrutiny.
This gives them humility to learn and courage to conquer…
Secondary School
From grades 6 to 8, the CLSP (Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme) is proposed. The program focuses on the development of knowledge and skills of three key subject areas, Science, Mathematics and English. As the CLSP offers a lot of flexibility, other subject areas such as Languages, Humanities and Arts can be developed along side.
At the end of the CLSP program students will have the option to take Checkpoint Tests which allows the students, teachers and parents to understand the development of knowledge and skills. A student’s strength’s and weaknesses in the core subject areas of English, Science and Mathematics can thus be analyzed and further steps taken.
The CLSP acts as a good prep
aration to the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education).
Students will follow the IGCSE in grade 9 and 10. The IGCSE is the world’s most sought after qualification. The IGCSE is a comprehensive programme that covers a number of subject areas such as Mathematics, Science, Humanities, English, Languages, Art, Technology and Social Sciences.
The IGCSE is acknowledged and respected by universities all over the world and also prepares the students for the IB Diploma program.
Higher Secondary School
Students of grade 11 and grade 12 will follow the DP (Diploma) Programme of the IBO. The curriculum consists of six main groups of subjects around three core requirements.
The six groups are:
Group 1: Language A (English)
Group 2: Language B (Hindi and French)
Group 3: Individuals and Societies (Business Management, Economics, History and Geography)
Group 4: Experimental Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
Group 5: Mathematics and Computer Science
Group 6: Arts (Music, Theatre and Visual Arts)
The three core requirements of the programme are:
1. Extended Essay: The extended essay is 4,000 words long and is based on a topic that interests the students. Students are required to work on this project on their own in order to develop their independent research skills.
2. TOK (Theory of Knowledge): The TOK program interlinks all subjec
ts by exploring knowledge. The TOK course is thought provoking, inviting lively debates and discussions from students and encouraging them to be open minded and understand different cultural perspectives.
3. CAS (Creativity Action and Service): The CAS programme is an integral part of the Diploma Programme and encourages creative pursuits, sporting activities that test the limits of physical strength and service that extends to the community at large. The CAS programme takes the students beyond the barriers of academics to a wider appreciation of the community around them.
The aim of the IB Diploma Programme is to create world citizens, appreciative of their own culture and that of other countries, responsible for their own learning and capable of communicating in more than own language.
The IB Diploma is recognized the world over. Universities everywhere value and appreciate the Diploma Programme student.
