Besides top quality academics, BBIS offers an extensive extra curricular programme in sports, the fine arts and social services. The IB Diploma has now been officially recognized as equivalent to the German Abitur. Thus IB graduates are qualified to study at German and European universities. Mission:
BBIS is an inclusive, coeducational English language day and boarding school serving the internationally-minded community of Germany's capital region and beyond. The school offers its students a challenging, comprehensive education within a diverse, respectful, caring, and encouraging community of learners, enabling them to develop the skills necessary to achieve their full potential.
Philosophy
The curriculum provides both academic stimulation and a wide variety of educational experiences beyond the classroom. We are committed to teaching the International Baccalaureate programme from Early Childhood to grade 12. Our educational practices flow from this integrated, inquiry-based programme.
Diversity is essential to our mission. According to the principles stated in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, people of all races, nations, and religions should respect and honour each other. We teach our students to understand and respect the views, values, and traditions of other individuals and cultures, as well as their own.
Care and compassion should be characteristic of all relationships within the school community. Learning takes place best in an environment that promotes care and concern for the welfare of others.
All members of the school community are encouraged to pursue excellence and are recognized for their achievements.
All people within the school community - staff, parents, administration, and supervisory board - continue to learn alongside the students we teach.
Students develop both intellectual and social skills in order to become critical and creative thinkers, achieve their personal best, and mature into responsible adults.

Boarding:The boarding facility is located in Potsdam-Babelsberg, about 20 minutes from the BBIS campus. In our boarding community, we house BBIS students who are determined to nurture their own strong minds, bodies and spirits and to further international understanding and tolerance among themselves, in our Berlin-Brandenburg community and throughout the world. The students are bussed daily to and from school. The boarding facility’s location offers direct public transportation into the city centre of Berlin and into neighbouring Potsdam as well. Eventually, we will have newly built boarding
facilities for approximately 50 students on the BBIS campus in Kleinmachnow.
The boarding facility offers newly renovated single, double and triple rooms, including washrooms. A comfortable common room, kitchen, laundry room and courtyard enable the boarding students to truly feel at home and enjoy and learn from each other as a group. An adult mentor living in an apartment adjacent to the student’s quarters is responsible for the students’ well-being during their time in Berlin. The morning and evening routines are supervised as well as the weekend time, which will regularly include outings and activities.
All of the boarding school offerings, including the living space, duties, projects, rituals and after school and weekend activities, are conceived to further these goals and provide the students with a nurturing and safe environment.
BBIS has already built a strong commitment to the intellectual, emotional and social development of young people from all over the world. Since August 2008 we enjoy a unique international boarding community
Extracurricular Activities:BBIS is a fast growing international school that is committed to their after school programme for many reasons. Our programme does change from term to term. Some activities will continue, others will stop and new activities will start. We try to share the time available evenly over all our students, giving them a balanced and varied program throughout the year. Our BBIS staff members offer their time freely to this program and because of that we are able to constantly expand and adapt our programme to the needs of our student body.
It is our goal to stimulate and encourage all students to participate in after school activities. It is through the activities in a fun and stimulating environment that we believe students are given another opportunity to develop holistically as a person. Each term, a wide range of activities are offered. We strongly encourage our students to make use of that variety as it gives them the chance to meet new friends, share and develop passions, integrate into our international community and meet people from other cultures whilst having fun.
