The Magic Years class names are a take on Erik Erikson’s “Eight Ages of Man”, in which he describes the eight stages of child development. In essence, the names of the classes are based on moral qualities that a child acquires during different stages of development. They are both a calling and a description of the child at a certain age during their journey through the early years.
At the age of 10 months, a young toddler needs to develop TRUST in relationships in order to have a successful first experience at school. Once the child is a year old and trust has been established, she must receive love in a CARING environment to ensure a great beginning in preschool.
With trust and care in place, the 2 year-old comes to school brimming with JOY. The result of this feeling is a content child laden with a healthy amount of CONFIDENCE.
At 3 years of age, when the child has gained confidence in her verbal and physical capabilities, she has the urge to demonstrate these new-found abilities in a way which often hurts other children. PEACE is required to channel these energies into positive outcomes. Once this is accomplished, the 3 year-old child works together with her classmates to bring about UNITY in the class.
When the 4 year-old child learns to cooperate with her friends, she is able to explore and experiment, take risks and inquire, and thus, express CREATIVITY in all aspects of her life.
Creativity allows the 5 year-old child to come up with new ideas and test them out while her thirst for knowledge continues to grow day by day. As she enters kindergarten, she strives for EXCELLENCE academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Trust and Caring Classes:
The Trust and Caring classroom is a safe and nurturing, centers-based environment that encourages the young learners to become responsible risk-takers and
independent problem-solvers. Our program provides:
* rich sensorimotor experiences for the children to explore.
* the use of language at a level suitable to the child’s understanding.
* care, emotional and physical comfort while building trust and warmth in relationships.
The structure of the program is designed to meet the needs of the children and parents. Parents can enroll their children 2, 3 or 5 days a week from 8am to 12pm. Each class has one teacher, one assistant teacher and one nanny.
Joy and Confidence Classes:
In the Joy and Confidence class, emphasis is placed on a developmental approach, where we strive to meet the needs of each child as a unique, individual learner. Children come to this class with a wide variation of skills and attributes and this will be respected as we encourage them to learn, grow and develop. Some areas of focus are:
* gross motor development (running, climbing, swinging, biking, etc.)
* fine motor development (holding a marker correctly, building a tower, threading, etc.)
* music (daily singing sessions, action songs, finger plays, etc.)
* visual arts (clay, playdough, collage, cornflour, etc.)
* social development (sharing, taking turns, problem-solving, building relationships, etc.)
Children may enroll 3 or 5 days a week from 8am to 12pm with the option of extended hours. Each class has one teacher, one assistant teacher and one nanny.
Peace and Unity Classes:
The Peace and Unity Class provides a safe and nurturing environment that promotes physical, social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual development of the child. In our interactions with each child, we use a developmental approach, which is both age and individually appropriate. Our classroom is divided into several centers or interest areas, within which the material and manipulatives are frequently rotated to provide variety and new challenges for the children. A typical day in the Peace and Unity Class consists of the following:

The Excellence Class is a vital place, tended by knowledgeable adults who nurture young minds with engaging and relevant experiences. In the Excellence Class, the children explore the world around them, encounter new ideas, make new friends and continue to develop active, inquiring minds that will lead them to become life-long learners. Through projects that are initiated by their own interests, children use what they know and expand their knowledge and skills in language, reading, writing, math, social studies and science within a context that is meaningful to them. Some of the components of the Excellence Class curriculum include:
