Early Years Programme:
The early childhood years are crucial to educational success. They lay the foundation upon which all else is built. With this in mind MGIS has selected the Internatio
nal Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) as the basis of its Elementary curriculum. This leads effectively into the IB Middle Years Programme (Years 6-10) and the IB Diploma Programme, a pre-university course recognized throughout the world.
Within the IB PYP, new activities are introduced regularly. These relate to specific units of inquiry. These units are selected to specifically match the interest and abilities of the children. Each unit addresses the core subject which offers a wide range of learning opportunities, cooperation, creativity, initiative and responsibility.
Primary Years Programme:
(Grade 1 to Grade 5)
Learning within PYP is inquiry-based. All subjects are taught within ‘Units of Inquiry’; but may in addition be given time as distinct subjects. This arrangement allows flexibility and spontaneity as well as depth and structure, and pays full attention to the development of subject-related skills. Research activities - individual and group are a notable feature of the PYP classroom, and help students from an early age to become independent and confident thinkers and learners.
Specialist teachers are responsible for Art, Drama, Information Technology, Physical Education and Music as well as French and Hindi. In all these areas links between class teaching and specialist subjects are emphasized.
Children who do not have English as a first language are assessed when they enter the school. Those needing help are placed in an English as a Second Language (ESL) support section for a part of the academic day, based on the language proficiency of the student. Ultimately, each child is fully mainstreamed into the regular instruction programme.
Middle Years Programme:
(Grade 6 to Grade 10)
In years 6-10, students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). This builds on the work of the Elementary School (the IB Pr
imary Years Programme and prepares students for entry to the IB Diploma Programme (Years 11 and 12) a universally recognized and highly challenging academic course which allows students to gain entry to universities and colleges worldwide.
The Middle Years Programme is broadly based: students must study their first language (Language A), a second language (Language B) Science, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical Education, Technology, and Performing or Visual Arts.
The combination of the academic rigor and flexibility, which is the hallmark of the Middle Years Programme, means that it not only lays a substantial foundation for entry into the Diploma Programme but also eases the transition between other international systems of education.
We believe that the Middle Years Programme, which is based on a clear understanding of how adolescents learn and develop, offers a higher quality of student learning.
