Primary Years Programme:

It focuses on the total growth of the developing child, encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development. The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children. Middle Years Programme:
The curriculum in grades 6 - 10 at ISHR is based on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The school was officially authorized to teach the programme in 2001 and will undergo a further evaluation visit in September 2004, to ensure that we are meeting IBO expectations.
The IB Programme has been selected as being the curriculum model which offers our students the greatest opportunity for a unified coherent international curriculum school-wide. From age 5 to 18, it offers the opportunity to experience a truly international curriculum, with a focus on individual research and enquiry. Materials are steadily being acquired at ISHR to support this resource-based learning.
Three Fundamental concepts underpin the Middle Years Programme:
Holistic/Global Education
The MYP seeks to increase a student’s awareness and unde
rstanding of both the separate identities of the various disciplines and their inter-relatedness. From this foundation it aims to increase a student’s perception of the problems of the real world and to find solutions to them.
Communication
Language learning is emphasised as a tool for the acquisition of all knowledge. Effective written and oral expression enables the young person both to fit successfully into society by communicating with others, and to build his or her own personality through structural thinking.
Intercultural Awareness
The MYP encourages an international perspective by awakening in young people an interest in the cultures and attitudes of people with backgrounds different from their own; by making them aware of the fundamental, positive values of the common heritage of human beings; and by encouraging intercultural exchange.
IB Diploma:
The International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) is a non-profit educational foundation with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The original purpose of the IBO was to provide a service to the international community and geographically mobile students by establishing a common curriculum and university entry credential. Because of the balanced curriculum and high standards of assessment, the Diploma Programme now also embraces schools in national systems across the world.
The IB Diploma Programme is a demanding two year course of studies designed for highly motivated secondary school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. Its reputation for rigorous assessment gives IB diploma graduates access to the world's leading universities and solid preparation for high achievement once enrolled.
