Additionally, if you are a new English teacher in Tokyo, we have a new teacher assistance program to help you develop original, effective courses for Japanese students.

 Teaching method:

At AmeriJapanese we offer one-on-one tutor led Japanese lessons either in person or by phone, which can be flexibly scheduled to suit your busy schedule. Sessions are individually tailored for beginner to intermediate levels, with as much English assistance as you wish.

Our emphasis is on speaking, helping you with practical words and phrases used in everyday situations, as well as general topics and cultural issues affecting those living in Japan—locals and foreigners alike. Unlike typical language schools, we use no tedious textbooks or written drills so that you can focus on what really matters: real communication with real people.

You are, however, strongly encouraged to bring a notepad to write down some keywords or a recorder to review them later, or even to bring any textbook you choose so that you can ask questions about written Japanese (hiragana, katakana, kanji and romaji) in detail.

 Courses:

One-on-one teacher led Japanese conversation lessons (Beginner to intermidiate levels); English teacher assistance program with  Culture and Teaching strategies.

 Our staff:

Our dedicated instructors (or “conversation partners” as we call them), all females with Japanese or multinational backgrounds, have the following in common to represent our teaching philosophy:

# Diversity: Grew up or have lived both in Asia and North America almost equally, not much longer in one country than the other
# Speak Two First Languages: English/Japanese bilingual native speakers who professionally teach even-toned standard Tokyo Japanese and American English ranging from northeastern to mid-Atlantic
# Casual Approach to Learning: Emphasizing daily conversations and practical tips/topics to get you started right away, usually without textbooks or written drills—exactly the way you perfected your first language!
# Social Ease: Their cosmopolitan background brings to Tokyo the wealth of experience in interacting with people from all over the world.
