Mission Statement: The mission of the American Language Institute (ALI) is to provide quality English as a Second Language instruction that meets the high educational standards of its affiliate campus, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). As a unit within University College & Extension Services, the self-support division on campus, the American Language Institute responds to the needs of a variety of audiences. Commission on English Language Program Accreditation: The American Language Institute at California State University, Long Beach, is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation for the period July 2007 through July 2017 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions. CEA is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accrediting agency for English language programs and institutions in the U.S. Programs: Intensive ESL Programs with 12 week to 15 week Programs offered in Spring, Summer and Fall. Affiliations: 1) NAFSA: Association of International Educators Accommodation: ALI students have three different options for housing: on-campus and off-campus residence halls, homestay, and apartments. The ALI can help students with some of these arrangements before arrival. The ALI can also help find temporary housing for students when they first arrive. Living at the Beach: Sparkling sunshine dances off of the Pacific Ocean while sailboats decorate the waves in the distance. Gentle ocean breezes sweep and sunbathers stroll across the soft sand. It's an endless summer, and simply another beautiful day in Long Beach. Residents and visitors alike cite Long Beach's superb weather as a top drawing card for the city. Conveniently Close to Absolutely Everything: Long Beach is so close to every terrain and climate that in one day, you could surf in the morning, snow ski in the afternoon, and come home and see a movie at night. Every famous Southern California landmark, attraction, and destination is easily within a two-hour drive from the city. The Most Livable City in Los Angeles County: Long Beach has been ranked by a leading consulting firm as “the large city with the highest quality of life” in Los Angeles county. The 1998 Forecast and Review, published by the Meyers Group, placed Long Beach at the top of the list based on such factors as low crime, good education, local attractions, climate, and the availability and affordability of housing.
