Preschool:
In the Anita Oaks Preschool, we strive to build the foundation of learning in each of our students. Our children thrive in an atmosphere that nurtures and encourages self-respect and self-discipline. We cultivate the growth of st
udent self esteem while building social competency and cognitive skills. Our students are educated and cared for by a loving professional staff trained in early childhood education. Their goal is to maximize early learning in the context of a flexible program and natural interaction with others. Through developmentally appropriate lessons our children are introduced to language and literacy skill, reading readiness and an introduction to mathematical thinking. All staff members participate in staff development and continuing education classes. Our weekly cooking experiences expose our students to early science and math equations.
Elementary:
Our primary grades offer a broad based curriculum emphasizing skill mastering, themed experiences, cooperative learning and guided instruction. Our students learn to read primarily through a literature based reading program with a phonics component.
Mathematic concepts and skills are introduced through a variety of strategies involving hands on activities, computational skill experiences, mental math and problem solving projects. As the students progress through the primary grades we emphasize the involvement of higher level thinking skills. Our social studies and science programs promote a variety of field trips and lab experiences. Students begin their movement towards the science fair by learning the scientific method, and sharing simple science experiments with the class. Projects, reports
and oral presentations help to enrich their learning experience.
Enrichment is paramount for our students to receive a well rounded curriculum. Students complement their learning with participation in physical education, music, art, computer and Spanish. The goal in our elementary program is to establish a solid foundation in academics as well as the development of personal responsibility and respect for others.
Middle School:
Our Middle School helps prepare students to meet the future with strong academics, self-assurance, eagerness and valued principles. Students are encouraged to think independently and critically. As our students progress through middle school, there is an increased responsibility for their own intellectual progress. Our program offers balance to ensure our students establish self-discipline, and intellectual enthusiasm, while still providing opportunities for creativity.
The rich curriculum emphasizes extensive instruction in language and writing. Students' scientific skills are acquired through class lesso
ns, hands-on experiments, and weekly presentations by our renowned paleontologist. The middle school mathematics program is balanced with the acquisition of concepts, problem solving and conceptual skills. Students also have the opportunity to advance their math skills throughout the year with our Accelerated Math program.
Enrichment classes include art, music, technology, physical education, cooking, and dance. Field trips help to enhance our program with short cultural trips to museums, libraries, and historical venues. Each grade level participates in one week long, overnight trip to Catalina, the San Bernardino Mountains or Washington, DC.
