Nursery Program:
The Foundation Stage is the initial Key Stage for children aged three to five. At KIS we follow the UK government’s ‘Curriculum Guide for the FoundInternational Schoolsation
Stage”. The early years are critical to a child’s development and children develop rapidly during this time. We believe that well planned purposeful play with appropriate intervention by teachers will engage children in the learning process and help them make excellent progress. In the Foundation Stage children are
forming attitudes towards education which will underpin all future learning so their time in the Foundation Stage should be enjoyable and fun.

The Foundation Stage is about developing key learning skills such as listening, speaking, concentration, persistence and learning to work co-operatively.
Activities are planned under the following areas of the curriculum as identified in the DFES Early Learning Goals.
 Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
 Communication, Language and Literacy.
 Mathematical Development.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
 Physical Development.
 Creative Development.

Play is the vehicle by which young children gain access to this curriculum. It is the child’s way of learning and they are therefore given time to explore, re-discover and build on past experiences. The children engage in activities planned by adults and those they plan or initiate themselves.

Primary School Program:
To get the most out of school, your child needs to get to grips with four basic skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing. This is what their English lessons are all about. These are where they learn how to express themselves clearly and creatively. They listen to and read stories and poems from all over the world, explore their imagination and read to find out facts.

Children are taught:
speaking and listening: they think about what they say, choose the right words, listen to others before they speak, talk with others and share ideas. They take different roles in drama, tell stories, read aloud, and descriInternational Schoolsbe events and experiences.
reading: they focus on words and sentences and how they fit into whole texts. Children work out the meaning of what they read and say why they like it or why they don't. They read stories, plays, poems, information texts in print and on computer screens, and use dictionaries and encyclopaedias.
writing: they compose stories, poems, notes, lists, captions, records, messages and instructions. They learn how to use punctuation to show the meaning of sentences, practise clear handwriting, and discover that thinking about patterns of letters and sounds helps them to spell w o r d s correctly.

Other Subjects include Maths, Science, Information and Communication Technology, Geography, History, Art and Design, Music and Physical Education.

Secondary School Program:
The English National Curriculum divides the secondary school into two blocks called "Key Stages". Key Stage 3 covers the first three years of secondary school, Years 7 to 9. Key Stage 4 denotes the final two years, Years 10 and 11. At the end of each Key Stage, there are external exams. Pupils in Year 9, sit SAT's (Standardised Assessment Tasks) in English, Maths and Science, which are externally marked. Year 11 students take IGCSE exams in May/June
of their final year.
