The China Path, Toronto:
The China Path is a Mandarin language school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, offering courses from absolute beginner to intermediate. Classes are small, and supplemented with additional readings, recordings, and software for vocabulary practice. The China Path core curriculum offers six levels of Mandarin classes for English speakers. Utilizing a variety of teaching methods, students are able to achieve practical conversational skills. The first level is geared to the absolute beginner, and each additional class adds new vocabulary and language patterns. Utilizing a variety of teaching methods, students are able to achieve practical conversational skills. The first four levels cover a broad range of every-day conversational topics, and are appropriate for someone considering travel in China. Levels 5 and 6 also have a broad scope, but with a slightly greater emphasis on business, and living and working in China.

All classes include extensive additional content, so that students who wish to move ahead more quickly may do so. Recordings, practice software, and flashcards are provided as part of the course material to support the learning process. The additional written material includes both classical and contemporary Chinese.

Books:
The China Path offers a selection of learning materials including books, cards, CDs, DVDs and videos that have been highly recommended by people who have succeeded in learning Mandarin. We also have a list of books that focus on everyday Mandarin, business Mandarin and travel Mandarin.

Learning Mandarin is a major interest of China Path members. All trips will have a Mandarin speaking guide, and he or she will encourage group members to practice their Mandarin skills as much as possible. On some days, there may be time set aside for language practice in anticipation of future activities. As much as possible, the guide will communicate with trip participants in both Mandarin and English.

Upcoming Trips:
The objective of each China Path trip is to illustrate three aspects of China. This is accomplished by visiting:

* A smaller or mid-sized city (preferably one with few tourists);
* An important cultural or spiritual site; and
* A major modern city.

We will work in conjunction with a tour operator who has experience in China. We hope to have the arrangements in place so that our first trip can take place next year, possibly to Qingdao, Tai Shan and Beijing.
