The Office of Gifted and Talented Education has been providing programming for academically able students for over 20 years. We offer academic year and summer programming for students in grades 7 - 12. Our purpose is to provide high-quality programs for bright students that they will not find at their home schools. We collaborate with numerous department and colleges on the MSU campus to ensure that students work with highly regarded faculty and outstanding facilities.

MSTat MSU:MSTat MSU is a 2 week residential program for middle school students, currently in grades 7 and 8. Each day students attend two academic lecture/labs followed by a Special Clinic. Academic courses include Astronomy, Chaos & Fractals, Genetics & Biotechnology, Desktop Publishing, Hands-On In Video, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Astrophysics, Physics, Physiology, and Zoology. Special Clinics include Basketball, Basic Martial Arts & Self Defense, Creative Writing, Flash I: Motion Graphics & Animation, Flash II: Interaction and Games, Soccer, and Visual Arts. Evenings include use of the campus facilities such as computer labs, the intermural sports center, planetarium, library, etc. Over the weekend, students attend team building camp, have a dance on Saturday night, and hold a field day on Sunday afternoon. Classes are limited to 15 students with instruction provided by a MSU professor assisted by an area high school teacher.
CSI: The Forensic Science Program at MSU:The CSI program is a one week residential or commuter program for students in grades 7 - 11. Instruction is provided by Michigan State Police, the FBI, and the local campus police. Experts in each area of forensic science provide lecture in the morning, followed by crime scene work in one of three crime scenes or in the crime lab. Students work all week collecting evidence they present as "expert witnesses" during a mock trial. A local judge presides over the courtroom with retired lawyers presenting their case. Each student present evidence.
High Achievers:High Achievers is a one week residential or commuter program for students currently in grades 9 - 12. Students can earn honors level MSU credits in the following courses:
Introduction to Microeconomics, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Philosophy, Writing as Exploration, Biotechnology, Writing in Transcultural Contexts, and Urban Foods & Farming. These credits are transferrable to other colleges and universities.
Explore Africa:Students can participate in the residential program or the residential program plus the travel program. The one week residential program begins each day with a lecture on African geography, history, politics, religion and culture. This is followed by a language lesson, dance, art, and literature class. The residential program concludes with a student program for parents, family and friends. Those participating in the travel program leave the next day for two weeks in South Africa with their MSU professor of African History and his assistant.
China Adventure:This program runs on even years. It will be offered summer 2010. Students reside on the MSU campus the first week then travel to China for two weeks. The residential portion of the program provides lesson in Mandarin Chinese, lectures on Chinese politics, religion, arts and humanities. A variety of MSU professors provide the lecture and labs throughout the day. Evenings are spent watching Chinese film, using MSU facilities, or participating in local cultural events.
