Early Years Department - Nursery School & Preschool:
Our early curriculum, based upon the Montessori Philosophy which values the growth of skill and independence in each individual, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Throughout the school a structured approach is taken to learning and the highest of standards are expected within a challenging and stimulating environment.

Your child can join the Hamilton School Nursery from the age of three months. At this stage, we focus on a high standard of kindness and care in a stimulating environment.

By the age of about sixteen to eighteen months as the need to acquire good social skills and the elements of cognitive development appear the experience broadens in preparation for Pre-school.

Our philPrivate Schoolsosophy is based on the work of Maria Montessori who would regard a respect for your child as paramount to development. Although we work in groups, the success of the individual within that group is essential.

Our youngest children live and work in an environmentally friendly, custom designed building which is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows, encouraging an enjoyment of the world beyond.

Interaction with music, dance, art and drama will encourage children towards the elements of numeracy and literacy and continued exercise of Montessorian Materials.

Our staff are all trained and qualified to regard our child's development as individual within our environment as paramount and thus a caring, firm, logical and positive approach to self-management is encouraged.

Reception
The Hamilton School Reception Department welcomes children during their year before they commence formal education. This crucial year prepares our children for a comfortable and seamless transition to the more formal experience of Primary School. The majority of our Reception pupils come from our own Nursery and Pre-school Departments where they have already developed a sense of fun and confidence. Pupils from outwith the Hamilton School are welcome if places become available.

At the ePrivate Schoolsarliest stage of Reception, the curriculum broadens from that of Pre-school with the introduction of Gymnastics, Games, Swimming, projects in History, Geography, Science and early French. The curriculum is based upon the 3-5 National Curriculum. The children's experiences are enhanced by the specialists available to teach Music, Art, French and Swimming. Children will spend increasing time using the facilities of our main school including the All-weather Pitch, the Library and a dedicated Computer Room where protected Internet use is available.

By the end of Reception, your child will be ready, eager and determined to move to our Primary Department with confidence.

Primary
The Hamilton School pupil is prepared for each stage of their education in an informed, caring and secure manner. Throughout the Primary Department, teaching and learning is based upon the Curriculum Documents for children from 5 -14 years, recommended by The Scottish Department of Education.

In the early years of Primary School, our children have acquired the elements of independent learning, with the beginnings of self study and research.

PePrivate Schoolsrsonality is rounded and a sense of fun and humour often apparent as confidence grows. The developing curriculum allows for an introduction of classical literature and music, where an aesthetic appreciation will be nurtured along with the basics.
