Students are instructed using classroom lecture combined with a preceptorial system of acceleration and enrichment where each student receives personal attention. We offer academic challenges to a wide range of diverse students selected on their potential for success in specific subject matter and skill areas. Although we consider standardized achievement tests and measurements, we place the highest attention on the quality of a student's performance.

 Why Westlake:

Why Westlake"Learning is a journey...the journey is about to begin."

Westlake provides average, above average, gifted and ESE children, who have a good academic potential, with a diversified curriculum focusing on traditional academic standards, the development of higher level thinking skills, moral responsibility, and civic involvement. Our school's motto, Education and Integrity are Strength accurately reflects our school's guiding philosophy.

* Westlake excels in all areas of meaningful criteria to assess school quality and the quality of education you can expect for your child
* Students feel challenged by Westlake's curriculum
* Westlake has high quality and committed teachers
* Westlake has a low student to teacher ratio (15:1)
* Westlake has strong partnerships among parents, teachers, and students, both on and off campus
* Westlake has a school climate that supports academic achievement and positive social development

We believe that our standards of performance accurately reflect how life's opportunities are earned--through hard work, motivation, knowledge learned, skill, and problem solving capabilities.

 Preceptor System:

We all are familiar with a traditional school that is made up of teachers, administrators and non-teaching personnel. Westlake has an added feature: Preceptorial instructors and class. They are responsible to insure that each student understood their classroom lectures, are on task and completing their assignments, are putting in enough time to successfully learn their subject area work, and to make sure that students have their questions answered to immediately correct any confusion about their work.

A Westlake Precept is not only in charge of making sure your child understands just the basic information they have been taught, but is there to stimulate new thought and ideas. These enriched teaching methods will take the student's education to the next level. Precepts are charged with giving each Westlake student an enriched level of understanding, a stronger working use of academic facts, better study skills and combing these goals to create practical and enriched applications of every student's newly learned academic information and skills.

Westlake student's read, write, and have more oral presentations than the public system offers. They learn to be comfortable as they communicate information. Communication skills continue to grow as Westlake's Precepts assign and track our students' progress in reports and research papers -- all of which add to your student's academic strength now and in the future.

We are not the only school that has such a Precept program. We share our belief in the strength of this idea with the world famous English schools of Oxford and Cambridge.

 Our Students:

Our StudentsWestlake's students are selected from a wide variety of academic and social backgrounds. It is the goal of Westlake's admissions policy to bring together a diverse `mix' of students with many different skills; academic, artistic, athletic and social.

Together at Westlake, these students are provided with opportunities to grow and excel. Under the guidance of our faculty, Westlake's students are especially encouraged to grow academically, and gain respect for their own abilities and to see the importance of applying those skills to improve not only their own lives, but the lives of those around them.

Westlake's students are drawn from average, above average, gifted and ESE students. Most of our graduates go on to college and many beyond, to graduate education.

The academic and social community provided for our students at Westlake honors their efforts to become lifelong learners and community leaders. The significance of Westlake's motto: Education and Integrity are Strength is instilled in each of our students, preparing them to create their futures with confidence.

There is no `typical' entering Westlake student. However, each of Westlake's graduates is quickly recognizable as a leader with a peaceable, confident attitude, pride in accomplishment, respect for themselves and others, a motivated and organized work ethic, and an excitement about learning.

At Westlake, we truly educate the child and create the future.
