Westlake Preparatory School (WPS) is an independent, nonsectarian school for grades K-12 based in Davie in the greater Fort Lauderdale area, Broward County, Florida. As a not-for-profit organization, WPS offers financial aid, scholarships, and faculty tuition benefits to approximately 21% of the student body for tuition expenses. WPS is also McKay, Step up for Students Program and I-20 approved. The Westlake Preparatory School curriculum program aims to develop critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities and lifelong learning.

Academic Curriculum:
Our curriculum is specially designed to encourage critical thinking and improve each student's academic abilities and study skills. Westlake's curriculum continues through all our grades, elementary, middle and high school as an individually designed college preparatory curriculum.
Using methods and materials that encourage the development of the whole child, Westlake's teachers create opportunities for individual achievement. Our children learn individually, in small groups, and with the entire class. The classroom is center based, offering children choices in art, gardening, science, language, reading readiness, fine and gross motor activities.
Westlake's elementary, middle and high school curriculum is designed recognizing the universal need for rigorous academic standards to create both academic and personal success for our students. This rigor is held by Westlake to be especially significa
nt for the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics.
Westlake's teachers initiate appropriate experiences in the classroom that reflect Westlake's long-range educational goals. These goals develop our students' ability to effectively use a variety of methods to learn, speak about, and represent their new knowledge in written form. Our curriculum develops our students' ability to work with others, make decisions about what to do and how to do it, and plan their use of time and energy; and to develop their ability to apply acquired reasoning capacity in a wide range of academic situations and with a variety of materials.
Westlake's plan-do-review sequence encourages our students to achieve these skills by involving them in decision-making and problem-solving situations through the school day. The teacher's role is to support these decisions and encourage them to extend learning beyond the original plan.
Reviewed and modified regularly, Westlake's curriculum remains current with our world's technological and social demands. Westlake's program of educational research and continuous review of subject area curriculum combines with our school's commitment to blend together educational innovation and academic tradition to assure that our students' course work remains rigorous and relevant to their emerging world. Athletics:
A part of every complete and balanced school experience is a vigorous development of each student's athletic potential and sportsmanship. Westlake has something for every student of every age to participate in. Westlake offers a wide variety of sports activities. Our Westlake Griffins compete with a full schedule of games with other South Florida private and public schools.
Westlake's physical education department has two coaches who guide all our students, from elementary to high school, as they learn and participate in our athletic program. Our coaches have a depth of experience which contributes to the superior quality of our program. One is an experienced recreational complex administrator, coach and referee, the other an outstanding and award winning athlete with ten (10) years of experience in conditioning, and the coach of many championship teams in multiple sports. Westlake coaches have a depth of experience which contributes to the superior quality and results of our competitive sports program.
