Day Programme for Grades 9 - 13; Junior School; Senior School; National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). Accommodation and Homestay Programme for International Students. Core subjects include English, science and mathematics as well as the arts and sports.

 International Department:

International DepartmentThe International Department at Long Bay College welcomes applications from international students wishing to study in years 9-13 (aged 13-18). Students from a wide range of countries including: Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Russia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand attend our school.

International students are able to commence their studies at any time during the academic year. However, our two main start dates are January and July and at those times we have orientation activities for new students (see Photo Gallery for latest Orientation photos).

During their first week at school all international students do ESOL tests to determine their level of English ability and also meet with the International Dean to discuss their preferred subjects and receive an individual timetable. International students enjoy the full range of academic, sporting and cultural activities available to all students at Long Bay College and are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports, music and the arts. For a small fee international students can join the school gym Sportsworks, receive Music tuition in a range of instruments and participate in many of the ‘after school’ sporting clubs and activities.

Accommodation and Homestays for International students:

International students who attend Long Bay College can live in one of three types of accommodation:

* With a Parent who lives in Auckland, New Zealand, or
* With a Designated Caregiver appointed by the student's parents, or
* With a Homestay Family arranged by the College or by the student's parents

 Homestays:

HomestaysA Homestay is an arrangement where accommodation is provided to an international student by a family living in New Zealand in return for a fee. Such families are not normally relatives or close friends of the student's parents.

Homestays can be arranged by the College or by the student's parents. In both cases, Long Bay College will visit and approve all homestay accommodation arrangements. Where the College arranges homestays, fees (at rates approved by the Board) will be collected by the College in advance from parents, and paid fortnightly to the homestay families.

Living away from home in another country can be a challenging experience for an international student. A pleasant and comfortable accommodation arrangement will go a long way to help students adjust to studying in New Zealand. Long Bay College carefully selects all its Homestay Families and is confident that they will do their best to make our international students feel at home.
