Skydive Long Island has been in continuous operation for the past 21 years, with one of the best Safety records in the United States. Skydive Long Island is conveniently located 70 miles east of New York City, in Calverton, New York, with easy road and rail access. With a view of the entire east end of Long Island, the Atlantic ocean, and Long Island Sound, SDLI is your premium skydiving center for the whole New York area! Tandem Freefall Progression. First time Tandem Skydives are available with Skydiving Video & Photography Services. Reservations strongly recommended. Students must be at least 18 years of age. Individuals weighing over 225lbs. must have their doctor´s approval.

AFP, Advanced Freefall Progression evolved from the United States Parachute Associations Tandem Progression Method. AFP is by far the most comfortable and safest method of Skydiving instruction to date, bar none! AFP takes the new student, from a non-skydiver, to being able to jumpmaster themselves in 10 levels, consisting of Three Tandems, and 7 AFP jumps with one jumpmaster. You will then be able to complete your A-License requirements, (minimum 20 freefalls), with the assistance of a USPA rated Coach.

First, you need to fill out the required paperwork, after that you will receive a brief instruction of about 20 minutes. This includes exiting the aircraft and body position in freefall. Other instruction, including how to land will be given while you are attached to your instructor on a dual harnessed parachute throughout the Skydive.

A jumpsuit and soft helmet are supplied. We recommend that you bring sportswear, athletic sneakers, and socks that will fit comfortably under your jumpsuit. Freefall video or landing photographs are available upon your request.

Hows your safety track record?
We pride ourselves in only using the most up to date and safest equipment, and the most progressive training method available. We have dropped static line in favor of AFF training, and almost all staff members have at least a USPA coaches rating.

Ray Maynard, your host and owner has over 3,000 jumps to his credit, a five time member of The United States National Parachute team in "Para-Ski", A Tandem Master, Commercial Pilot, and holder of a Pro-Rating. How high do you go?
Skydive Long Island is the only dropzone on Long Island going to 13,500 feet.

How hard is the landing?
All the parachutes used at Skydive Long Island are Ram Air (square) parachutes, which are highly maneuverable. They can slow down to a great degree allowing you to stand up or slide onto the ground on your bottom.

What if my parachute doesn't open?
All sport parachute systems contain two parachutes, a main and a reserve. The instructors are highly trained on the use of the system and while the need to use the reserve is very rare, it does happen occasionally.

All of our student systems are equipped with an automatic activation device, AAD, which is a sophisticated on board computer that senses speed and altitude. The computer is designed to activate the reserve parachute if it senses that you are too close to the ground and falling too fast.
